You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I’ve just taken received a Q accoustics 3050i cinema package with a Yamaha RX-V485 - it was a good deal and at the limit of my budget. I’ve not listened to it yet but I’ve just realised that the receiver does not have preouts so there is not an easy way to integrate a stereo amp.
Are there any switching boxes I could use between the above receiver and the the front L and R speakers so I could switch to a stereo amp or would this cause any actually noticeable degradation.
Not a cork sniffer so I’m not hugely hung up about it though. I just mostly hate fiddling with remotes and would rather just have a dial I can turn to switch to 2.1 for music.
I reckon the subwoofer will make this a pain though.
maybe there's an *APP* for that ? (haven't read it all though)
(and, **** me, that's a meaty looking setup !)
It’s completely OTT and I didn’t really want the rears but buying everything individually would have cost me a lot more than what I got it for 🙂
Heheh.
Apologies, the previous post was a rambling mess.
If you don't want the rears or centre you could bi-amp the fronts only from the Yamaha and run it as a stereo amp.
For me if this was the case, I'd be selling the bits I don't need and buying a new amp.
have you tried just running the yamaha in stereo mode? they normally have a pretty good reputation for music - my older RX-V667 sounds great in stereo to me - no need for a separate amp.
Twonks, I wanted the centre to get clearer dialogue compared to my current stereo setup 🙂
Cheers 5Lab, in that case I will probably just rely on the receiver then and put up with the somewhat fiddly controls. I’m fairly surprised that in this day and age AV receivers still lack smart features on the whole and have the ergonomics of stuff from the 90s.
Will have a look to see if there is an app as well.

I think you might be overcomplicating it/underestimating the amplifier. Pretty sure my AV amps (I've a Sony and a Yamaha) remember the audio settings you use for an input so if you set it up for 2.1 Ch stereo for your 'Music' source and 5.1 for your Video source then it remembers them.
Yamaha normally have 4 big configurable buttons on the front you can set to be your most used inputs as well so there's no need to tap a button repeatedly to get to the right input.
Ahh sweet, ok I’ll dig through the manual some more. Cheers simons.
