I'm looking for downloadable audio books. Is it just me or is Audible basically the only game in town and REALLY expensive?
£8/month for one title? Seems very steep.
I actually think it's not that bad, tho join the american version* as it has many more titles. The book i've currently got is 11 hours long, the one I had before that was 56 hours long (the rise and fall of the 3rd reich! long book!). £16 quid for 67 hours of entertainment is worth it in my book - I just listen whilst I'm sitting in my car on the way to work.
* If you want to join the US version, then get a VPN that terminates in the US (most offer a free trial) log into audible.com, and sign up - put your address as being in the US - I used the amazon office address... You'll need to be on a vpn when you download as well. UK Credit card works fine.
Your library should give access to audiobooks - I can access about 4,000 titles. Not much new stuff that I've found, but plenty of choice - and free.
I log into an app called Overdrive using my library card serial number.
I use it and find it pretty good value despite thinking it expensive to begin with. The real benefit is getting access to the daily book of the day which is £1.99 and I pick those quite up quite often and land up saving my tokens for when its 2 for 1 which they run quite often. I got a book the other day that was 45hrs long, where else do you get 45 hours of entertainment for £2?
