Looking at an Audi and tempted to go for the S Tronic semi auto box. It seems quite good and has flappy padles too. However it is more and trying to find a 2nd hand one is quite hard.
Has anyone had one and is it worth it over sticking to a manual? Sure the vast quantities of motor experts here will have an opinion
...and yes I have test driven both, but can't make up my mind - though the manual version of the Audi I am looking at is in the £35 car tax bracket 🙂
Got it in my Golf. Love the paddles in manual for spirited driving; virtually instant upshifts with a satisfying exhaust pop, and a blip of the throttle on the downs. Good to have the auto option in town, but not as smooth as a pure auto, and can be a bit jerky during manouvering.
Thanks Brycey - that's why I'm tempted. Need to also convince the misses of it too.
I had a Mk 2 TT with it and absolutely loved it. It was my first auto 'box and I was very sceptical at first but it's a great system. I liked the fact that you can just put it in auto and bimble along when you're not in the mood but have a manual box when you want to have a bit of fun. It was a sad day for me when it went...
had it on an S Line A3 sportback diesel - and thought it was bobbins on the diesel engine - the system overrides you taking it to the redline to prevent damage so you're constantly flapping the paddles at 4K - got bored and left it in auto all the time in the end... i'd imagine it' s alot better in a petrol version
