My Audi S4's sat nav is playing up, says the DVD is not being recognised. No scratches on the disc tho? The nav system is working though as the display on the speedo is displaying the correct road names as driving...

Any ideas?

aye probably the laser as it is an obvious thing to age (like it did on my Xbox).

my CD player in the car now won't play CDs on a cold morning but will play them after 20 minutes or so of driving.

Been wondering if it was either due to slight condensation on the disc or laser when the car is cold or due to voltage (battery is only a year old though) combined with the laser losing strength. There is normally a little pot you adjust to increase the power but it is probably only a temporary fix.

There is one really fundamental flaw with all Audi sat nav systems.

It doesn't matter where you are, the system always assumes that it's the centre of the bleeding universe and expects everything to revolve around it.

Does sound like a laser problem. Is it the original disc - or a replacement? Some replacements can cause issues if they are a bit hooky... (At the price Audi charge for updates, copies to my mind are acceptable).

My 407 has this problem, fixed by either removing the laser and cleaning it, or if that fails replacing the laser, or if that fails bending over and getting the whole unit replaced.

I just use the satnav in my phone at the moment.

Edit: don't get me started on replacement discs, £100 odd for a disc that was last updated in 2010??? No way jose!

shame you can't just put the data on some sort of flash memory and do away with a DVD.
