Weird one this, I know there are plenty of Audi forums to use however I prefer to keep away from them.
When engine is up to full heat, gauge sits dead on 90c as soon as I put the heater on the temp gauge drops almost to the line below. This is at idling or driving.
It’s got a new thermostat in, fitted yesterday which I thought would rectify the issue. Next part to change is the temp sensor. Apart from these two components can anyone think of any other reason this maybe happening?
Hoping changing the temp sensor will rectify problem.
No fault codes whatsoever.
Thanks in advance
Some have an electric aux water pump.
Not sure what that does... but does it work 😂
I had this. Thermostat. Dsg cars have 2. It could also be the temp sensor on the back. Easier and cheaper to replace that first.
Edit - posted to early , looks like you are on the right track.
Modern temperature gauges are pretty much just indicators, and not an accurate representation of the engine temperature. They've typically only got 5 positions (cold, warming up, normal, getting hot, overheating).
If the gauge dropping a bit when the heater is on is the only apparent symptom, I wouldn't worry. Modern engines can be surprisingly efficient, and putting the heater on could be enough to drop the coolant temp for the gauge to drop a notch.
As above, could just be cooling a few degrees and taking it past the trigger to move the gauge. Modern gauges are fake, on the other hand Iveco vans are fitted with real analogue gauges and it's really common to see people asking for help after pulling their cooling system apart as they are not used to seeing the temperature gauge fluctuate in different driving conditions...not helped by the engine fan not cutting in until the needle touches the red zone!
Temp sensor - issue resolved
Thanks for input
