I love to read late into the night, it really is one of life's pleasures. I have a big Anglepoise style lamp that projects over my shoulder. It's dimmable and therein may possibly be the problem because it flickers in a really annoying way. There's loads of 60W equivalent bulbs available but I need a bit more TBH. As a group I reckon that there will be more than just me with this problem. So, STW, any suggestions about decent looking (not just a plain traditional bulb) bright, dimmable, non-flickering and silent* bulbs?

*who knew that bulbs buzzed? Not me.

TIA

Ambrose

You failed to mention the socket type you need for the lamp.

Iirc even dimmable leds need a proper electronic dimmer not just a rheostat that worked with old school lamps

That's a lot of light for a side light! If you then dim it why so powerful?

IKEA have dimmable Leds with a handy portable bluetooth dimmer and on/off switch. Can control more than one light in a group. 6 in our room have lasted over 8 yrs now and still work well.

Philips do a few that might work, depending on what fitting you’re after.

Maybe reading glasses- you wouldn’t need it to be so bright, and it would be more relaxing.

It's a large Edison screw fitting. I have varifocals. There's times I'd like to dim the light if eg, I'm just listening to music or watching the TV. I'll check to see if the dimmer switch is the correct type. I'll be having a look at the Philips and IKEA stuff too.

Cheers folks.
