About to click on the buy button for our second bike shed. Love the first one but £29 for a shelve 🙁
Any alternatives that anybody can suggest?
I got my shed from screwfix which were quite a bit cheaper. Not sure if they do the shelves though
Dunno about alternatives I bit the bullet and paid for two shelves in my Asgard. It did sting a little but they are solid and very handy
I spent an absolute age looking at a new shed/workshop replacement for the old and rotten one I had in my garden.
I looked at all sorts - metal, log cabin, cheap, building myself (even though I dont have the time). A friend had an amazing garage (even though he used it as a bike store/gym), 40mm thick, double glazing and a proper door like on your house. It was amazing.
In the end I went with a Billy-Oh 14'x8' log cabin. Am I pleased, am i ar$e!!!
Dont get me wrong it looks good and its a nice 30mm thick, but I paid extra for a HD floor and roof and its shocking. In the end I purchased 20mm OSB board and re-roofed it (two days after I put the original on with a million screws), I also added the same OSB board to the already laid floor. Now its much better.
I have also replaced the felt with a EPDM rubber covering for the roof.
Plus's - it now feels solid as a rock (as soon as the new floor and roof went down. 30mm thick it feels good.
Con's - its cost a lot more than I thought, shed was £1600 and I have spent possibly another £600+; Its a bit short. I am almost 6' and the tall bit is okay but I keep smacking my head on the rafters down the short end and on the door frame.
And my point is?? Now its complete and now really solid I have removed my old kitchen as part of house refurb we are having done, and the cool looking grey and white cupboards, base units and oak worktops are mine for my shed and garage and the walls are strong enough to support them 🙂
So no dusty shelves for me, actual gloss grey cupboards!

Are you asking for shelve alternatives or Asgard alternatives?
They are handy, if expensive. What is worth it though is the wooden floor.
Hooks are a bit of a waste, don't bother.

Is there any way of fitting a ground anchor? I'm planning on getting an asgard to replace a wooden store, which I cut a hole in the bottom of to access a ground anchor embedded in the concrete below. Or are they considered sufficiently secure not to need to lock up the bikes themselves?

Extras in the bikeshed? Wayhey!
jca - I have a couple of ground anchors fitting inside my Asgard shed. Drilling sufficiently large holes for the anchors' bolts was a bit of a pain, though.
I got the wooden floor, some shelves and some hooks for my shed. The shelves are very sturdy. The hooks are less useful but I do use one or two.
LeeW - is it worth the £55? I’m sure someone on here suggested artificial grass off cuts to line the bottom.
Apologies for any confusion it’s alternatives to the £29 bits of folded metal i am after and will will be getting another but thought I would ask here before adding them to my Asgard basket.. 9 week lead time which is annoying
We have the four bike version which is ace and by far the best and most secure bike store I’ve had. I’m aware nothing is impossible to get into but the noise and effort to get into it are reassuring. IMO 😃
The four bike version is tight for three bikes though (27.5 wheel MTB, CX, road bike) and I wouldn’t like to have four squashed in. We now have six bikes between myself, wife and son so need another. Happy to pay the £500 plus for the shed but struggle with parting with cash for the shelve. Might be a Scottish thing 🤔
I think so, though artificial grass is a good idea too.
The base (I have) is a really snug fit, it does make it a lot quieter to use, f3els a lot more substantial etc. I don't know how effective artificial grass would be in comparison.
I've got the 4 bike 29er Asgard, the shelves are worth getting and you will probably end up getting them for free like me and many others did as they are quite renowned for cocking up deliveries and compensating customers by refunding them for accessories.
The artificial grass was my idea (wife’s actually) and does work as it locks in mud and grit and you can then give it a shake out now and then. The wooden base just leave floor muddy and the base full of grit as it dries.
Shelves, I’ve got two and they are practical and fit well. Hooks you could improvise something else as they are only attached by a single screw anyway. If you are going to order see if you can get them to throw in a touch up paint kit.
is it worth the £55?
Not really. It fits well and saves you the effort of knocking something up but £55 is a bit steep for the cheap bit of board that it is.
Also, if your bikes are long travel gnarpoon type things, the thickness of the wooden floor can make the bars a bit high to close the lid on the 29er store
I went through the same thought process. I didn't stump up for the shelves. I've not missed having them.
I've used sticky hooks for the likes of helmets etc. However almost anything knickable comes back in the house with me. (bag, front wheel, helmet etc).
Asgard shed has been one of the best purchases I've made. Lets me sleep sound at night in the knowledge my bikes are as safe as they can be. Neighbour uses a wooden shed.. they'll go for his bikes first 🙂
As for the floor. B&Q will cut a few pieces of treated MDF to size for you.

Wished I'd got the floor for mine, but some of that interlocking foam flooring works a treat too and is easier to cut to size than a DIY ply floor.
Paying for them to put the shed up is worth it - they are bloody heavy.
Weird, I got mine put together with a couple of friends without any bother and I'm a cack handed fool. Plus it's a shed sized one, rather than a bike store.
Someone set up with the right DIY tools or who generally isn't a cack handed fool would probably be able to construct their own floor panels without much bother.
Just put together the four bike version on my own. If you can use a screw driver you can put it up.
I have a desk job now so I really enjoyed building it, took about an hour and a half. two bodys would do it in about 40m.
The lid hinge was the only tricky part. I used parcel tape to hold the backs of the hinge bolts in place.
So I wouldn’t recommend paying for th build up.
