...won't stay closed.

Following my through the floor laundry quest last night.

ITs really time I fitted a new door and frame to my basement I'm fairly sure I could have gone through it by walking particularly energetically at it.

I'm not putting up a photo due to condition of grass and paving, and the security of my shit bikes.

Its an external door set in a cavity brick wall. The frame and jam are taking up a significant amount of the available rough hole (set of fleegles won't go through without twisting).

It's an old door and its done and the frame has some histor wood muncher holes. I'dd like something cheap and secure but some light wouldn't be a bad thing (no windows yet).

I'd also like to keep the opening as wide as possible.

It needs to be cheap.

cheap cheap not the "this is a bargain as its 450quid rather than 1000buckaroos"

I did wonder about glueing and screwing some sheets of ply together and making its slide to free up space in the doorway and allow it to be open without being in the way but its would have to be internal and can it be weaterproof and secure?

I realise it's into a cellar/basement but there may still be building regs around fitting new external doors to consider.

Having said that I'd keep an eye on gumtree/ebay/freecycle for someone local getting rid of a suitably sized upvc front/back door and frame of the right size.

Is the hole standard door size, btw?

“.. and for my next trick, I intend to reinvent the wheel”

What you probably need is a new frame and an external paint grade solid door blank that you can cut to size. Add in some basic ironmongery and you should be able to buy the materials for about £120 quid.

Couple of good points Wwaswas.

Buildign regs... eh no idea probably but lets assume this is temporary as at some point its likely to be replaced with a larger door and some windows and its out of site and can't actually be worse than the current door.

been looking a gumtree but a upvc frame and door frame I think takes up to much width I think.

I'm not at the door right now but from memory its about 640 I'll need to measure such things obviously.

Perchy don't come in here with sense talking thats not what you are for. However you have given me the search term i was seeking earlier so perhaps you have some aditional merit.

I know you are right obviously but its proper in the way when open and its nice to have it open as its bloody dark in there.

Wheels are round anyway.

Brick it up and keep the hole in the floor. Add a winch and pulley for placing and extracting bikes. Doors are sooo last year.

My local tip usually has a nice selection of white PVC and wooden doors. Then all you would need ISA frame and plinth. Which to be honest you could constructed from timber for probably £40

Perchy are you drunk?

Nope but being a pretend internet comedy panther is just my side hustle when I’m not being a serious, highly trained construction professional.

Sometimes it leaks through.

annoyingly he's right in this instance.

So no firemans pole for me 🙁

Perchy do I need consent to change the door and frame?

If you ever need help with Civil 3D I'll answer one question in return!

Crack on then.

I’d get a joiner to do it.  Hanging doors sounds a lot easier than it actually is.

Cool thanks!

I know what you mean but I've done a few now and if it all goes wrong if I knock nicely she might lift the floorboards to let me out...
