Why wont Excel (2003) let me change the shape of titles in charts?!!

If I change the size or shape of the chart it pisses around changing the shape and format of all my titles, axis labels etc. but it won't let me change them manually to what I want!

For example I want my chart title on 2 lines, but if I put it at the font size I want it automatically makes it 3 lines and won't let me change the shape of the title box to make it longer + thinner.

Can anyone help me? Please? It's driving me nuts.

Couple of possible helpers:

1) Use ALT+Return to force multiple lines in title box (or text boxes)

2) Unclick "Auto Scale" in the Format Chart Area > Font control (this leaves all fonts as the size you select rather than resizing with the chart)

Thanks for the reply. Just deleted the chart titles and labels and replaced them with text boxes in the end.

click on the title in the chart view so that it is selected, then click inside the title box with the text caret (not in the format chart menu item)
You can then treat it like a text box, select parts of text and change its format, add a carriage return etc, move the title box around. Its fully cusomiseable.
