Still bedlam.
Regularly 2h+ queues for immigration.

No personal experience, but Hugh Grant isn't a fan as of yesterday...

I departed thru T5 on Sunday and it was fine for me but LHR was only a connection. So not sure that helps you...

I think it varies - other half and kids came back from Barbados into T3 on 9th July - they were through immigration and bags already coming though in under an hour

Cheers all.

I might try to travel with just carry-on then.

I’ll be finding out on the 31st, when I go to Heathrow to meet my late partners sister and her family, who are coming over in part for a celebration of her birthday. I *thought* there were only going to be Ali and her husband, when she declined my query as to wanting me to pick them up, but now there’s five coming, and their hire car won’t handle all their luggage! As their flight arrives at 8am, I’m wondering what time of night, or next morning, I’ll be getting to Salisbury, where they’re staying.
They are prepared, they’re using AirTags in their luggage to track it, which they’ve used back home, successfully it seems.
*Sigh* I might be doing a lot of sitting around…

I might try to travel with just carry-on then.

That’s the advice I’m seeing in pretty much every travel article that’s discussing the issue.
Iceland’s national carrier is putting its own handling staff on flights to deal the luggage issue at arrivals, which is being admirably proactive, but I don’t thing most airlines have anything like enough trained staff to do that.

This might be worth a read, it’s mostly about Amsterdam Schipol, but it gives an overview of the current situation.

I have two stories - my bf's son flew from Glasgow to Heathrow last week to go to USA. Stuck for so long at Heathrow he missed his flight. Then a four hour queue for American Airlines desk. Eventually put on a flight to Chicago then back to JFK (!?) and eventually on to Oregon.

Another friend is coming over from Canada for a few weeks they are just bringing hand luggage - why risk it?

I have booked for NZ in October - Glasgow/Dubai/Melbourne/NZ it is worth a bit extra money to avoid Heathrow at the best of times - it must be beyond the circles of hell at the moment.

I flew from t3 on Sunday. Queues were big (about 1.5 hrs combined queueing to get through bag drop and security) but not as bad as I thought they might be.

I'm going to find out about arrivals tomorrow morning.

I think, with departures, the problem is more airline specific. I’ve flown out of lhr. Lgw and Glasgow and it’s been ok, the queue at bucket and spader check in meanwhile have looked horrific (Glasgow looked horrendous as did lgw when I collected my mother last week) The most trepidatious we’ve been is with easyJet out of Gatwick and priority sorted out the queues.

Update: came back this morning with checked-in bags and Heathrow was surprisingly fluid. I disembarked the gangway at 08:50 and was heading through the arrivals hall at 09:20.

I may have just been lucky but no queues and bags appeared shortly after passport control and a pee-stop. Happy days!

Either you went back in time or it took 23.5hrs...

Edit: I see you've fixed your own typo! 😅

Opened this thread cos I'm flying out of there (transatlantic) in mid-September.
It was a lot cheaper to go from Heathrow than to faff around going from the other circle of hell, Manchester.

Haha, blame it on the jet-lag! Which reminds me… mahoosive queues at Caffe Nero in the arrivals hall!

You’ll be alright in September as Liz Truss will have delivered on everything 😜
