I'm interested in some almost new trainers on ebay size 8. They're listed as mens, but on a quick google research I suspect they might be womens. would it make any difference re the sizing/fit?

Womens shoes generally narrower in the heel area as women have slimmer heels than men. Hope this helps.

was discussing just this last night in the pub with a mate's daughter. she had lent her Scarpa boots to a male friend with diddy feet (she's an 8, so she's hardly a ballerina either) and was worried that he might be embarrassed by them being "womens" fit, I guessed they might be a narrower shape, rather than have a pink bow on the back. I didnt realise it was just the heel that was narrower though.

Guess it also depends on the manufacturer. I wanted some black patent DMs but they only make them in their 'womens' range. Tried them on and even with my wide feet couldn't feel anything different in the fit compared to my 'male' footwear.

Generally, for a lot of female specific stuff, whether it's shoes or bikes, there's more variation between different manufacturers than between the men's and women's versions from the same manufacturer.

As a size 8, I do sometimes buy men's walking boots/shoes, usually Salomon, and I think the men's come up a teeny bit bigger than the women's. It could all be in the mind though...

Every company has a different last [shape].

Just try-em and sell them on if necessary. Maybe you can try another pair somewhere else?

Also - B.A.Nana, With my bike finally fixed [enough], I will be in the position to ride it soon, and perhaps do a little trail work with you if you still need?

It's all fallen thru I'm afraid. It was a Bradford Council project, so you'd assume it was cut and dried, but a small group of local nimbys threatened to cause as much trouble as possible so BMDC decided it was more trouble than it was worth and shelved it all. I did consider asking if we could enhance stuff on Hardn Moor instead, but I was too sour from what had happened. 🙂

Lame. Well, a ride sometime? Could you do an 8pm start on a Monday Night Pub Ride [tm]? They sometime come to Todmorden or Smithy Bridge, about an hour by train. I tend to get home around 12pm, but it's fun 🙂

Not tomorrow for me though, something has come up and Manchester is too far 🙁

I don't have lights and just go out biking very occasionally in the winter. I'll be up for local rides in the spring tho. You could join the baildon MTB page on facebook, I think they get out from time to time in the winter.

I can tell you from experience (hang on a bit - don't jump to conclusions!) that women's sizing is a tiny bit smaller than men's, but there's not much in it.

I'm a 7, but I've got very narrow heels - so I always buy walking boots from the women's range as they fit better. I think that a men's 7 is a euro 41, but a women's 7 is a euro 40.

Good post.

And probably my fave username on the board 🙂

Mr Nana - My lights are crap too 🙂 Just follow the guy with ones a little brighter than yours [not too bright or you're riding into a black hole!]. Don't let the clown with 12,000,000 Lumen lights behind you or you WILL crash into a tree.

Gimmie a buzz if you change your mind, fancy a day out or have another go with the trailbuilding.
