Need to get back to the gym. Have an injury which means i can't really get about that well, so lacking any other form of exercise.

Are PureGyms and the like absolutely heaving or are they OK? Not sure i can bear it, if it's like it usually is after new year/christmas.

Not sure about the chains, but the gym I use had a handful more people on the 12th and has quickly settled back into the same pattern of people.

Are there any independent gyms near you? I pay £22 for a 24/7 gym on a quiet industrial estate, I go weekday mornings 5-6 and it's only ever me and another 2 lads.

I know a couple of friends who use a 24/7 gym at 5-6am and have it to themselves, though that's a whole other level of suffering if you ask me

My gym has been empty all though lockdown, it’s been great!

It’s a work gym and only 3 of us use it, but one lad comes in at 4am. He doesn’t have to, he just ‘likes it’. Nutter. I go on my lunch break, an hour of solid workout while everyone else eats a 3 course meal and looks at their phones 🤣

Don’t have any useful info but yeah, the 4/5 am club exists. Look up Jocko Willink if you want to see a proper crazy person, apparently used to raise an American flag randomly in Iraq ‘to start some shit’. Some humans are just different

Pure Gym has settled down to normal in Oldham, PG has an app that gives you real time figures on how many in the gym.
Seems quite well organised with the arrangements for SD and the abundance of cleaning gear.

I ran past my old Pure Gym the other day and it looked empty.

The first week was a nightmare but seems to be back to normal now I use 5 times per week so currently seeing a lot of new faces but they will soon be gone. I think I can honestly say I will never take going to gym for granted again this lockdown has been hard but necessary.

Does "back to normal" mean pre-Covid normal or pre-last-lockdown normal?

The former was much busier than the latter, surely?

Not sure how. Mine has a maximum limit on the number of people allowed in at any time and social distancing in place.

To answer the OP, it depends on the time of day. Working from home gives me much more flexibility on when I go. It's no busier than normal though.

Poked my head into my old Pure Gym last week at about 4.30pm when it would have been busy 18months ago. There were people there, but not "heaving".

The local council gym has a notice on its website saying they're not following the government guidance and won't open all facilities untill they feel it's safe to do so. Which is beginning to grate a bit as it feels like whoever's in charge is being over cautious and is doing it arse about face anyway.

E.g pool is open, but only if you pre book for a 7am or 7.30am session. Because covid apparently has a lie in and can't pre book.

Just back from Puregym in city centre.
Pretty empty tbh. Didn't have to wait for any stations unlike normal.

Was the same at 530pm on Thursday...

Quite pleasant

Not Puregym, but the gym I use is in a Holiday Inn and it was busy the first week back but it's quiet now, the staff tell me lots of people are not turning up or cancelling.

the first two weeks there were people signing up every time I was there but I've only seen one of them using the gym.

I train in a wee local place that's situated in the Rugby club and it's been dead. Usually 8am onwards is busy but i've been the first one in at 9am. as the signin book is empty.

All gyms have to run at reduced capacity at the moment, our nearest (Nuffield Health) is running all group classes outside and the indoor gym area is heavily Socially Distanced eg only every other running machine etc switched on - 2m gaps everywhere.

My local chain gym (not pure gym but similar 24/7 model) is quiet at 6.30 am when I go. About 5 people in a space the size of a tennis court.

down under got very unhappy during the transition phase after lockdown...my regular gym that never had more than 5-6 people during out of peak hours had max capacity 20 but getting a booking (on line system) near impossible...then you'd login at right time and grab a slot and find only (guess) 5-6 people there...I complained and asked they just block the serial knobbers...they know from door fob who was actually turning up...

yep bit like new years resolution time at first plus a more mixed age range during day...I guess with people and students working from home or not working at all...all back to normal pretty quickly

Our gym at work is still not open. It's quite small and crowded but I only ever go early and am the only one there.
