You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Currently converting a garage to a room, the only work i need done is 5 course of brick and a window fitted where the garage door used to be. The other work im doing myself.
I've contacted the local council planning dept and i only need a building warrant but i need an architect to do me some drawings. How much should i expect to pay for this service ?
your prob better off finding a friendly architectural technician for that rather than a full blown architectual practice....
where abouts are you based?
If you can't find anyone more local let me know.l I'm a qualified architectural technician based in Stourbridge.

You shouldn't need drawings at all for this type of work. Do it under a "Building Notice", which is basically filling out a form & paying a fee to your local authority Building Control Dept & then get the friendly local building inspector round when you want to make a start to discuss the job. He will tell you what he expects/ what he will need to see to sign off the work, keep him in the loop throughout & everyone's happy & you' ve saved yourself some money on unecessary drawings.
Yup - do as pedro states.
Trick with building control is to ask them their opinion on something (you may already know the solution) but they love being involved in stuff. Make it awkward for them and you will find them a pain, involve them and it will be a breeze.
Thanks for that, all good info. When i spoke to planning they said the fee is £100 (cause the work is under £5k) and all i do is fill in form which they sent out and include drawings. I'm in Scotland, Fife so I'm not sure if the regs are different?.
Thanks for the offers, i don't mind paying just looking for ball park figures.
Although due to the helpful advice here I'll ask more questions about pedros suggestion.
Cheers
In England, the most BC might ask for when doing this kind of work is a basic specification. This link should help :

but in any case, just give the building inspector a call
There is nothing wrong with a decent hand-drawn sketch for this kid of application.
use a ruler, and pint a border on a piece of A4 paper before you start - job done.
There are drawings like this on our local councils website - i've been looking through recent applications wile I wait for them to approve ours (not hand drawn - for Dorma loft extension)
As above. Its a bit overkill for most architects and technicians.
Plenty of guidance on the web. Also break it down into elements. Insulation / heating / ventilation / resistance to moisture (ground / walls) / plumbing (if any) / electrics / MOE, etc
Agree with the sketch. It will also aid you with the thought process. Plenty of advice on here if you get stuck.
Do the drawing yourself on a sheet of A3. Just need a pencil and rule. Scale rule even better.
It's does not have to be anything more.
Cheers folks, that's what I'll do. I'm pretty handy with a sheet of paper and ruler...I'm on it.
you can search planning applications on-line on your local councils website - everyones drawings will be there for you to see - might give you an idea of what is acceptable to your local building control Stazi..
