Another bathroom thread!
We're currently having our bathroom done and in the fitters' original quote they said they'd be using aquaboard behind the tiles of our bath (with a shower over it) for waterproofing.
This is for an interior wall & party wall, both made of block and plastered.
Now they're suggesting they don't need that as it's only required on plasterboard walls. Agree or disagree? The wall construction would have been obvious from the initial site visit, so it's surprising to see a change.
DIY response -
I did the main bathroom with aquapanel behind all the tiles - would have been better to just do it round the bath/shower.
Loft shower was green plasterboard with a roll-on rubberised waterproofing treatment. I was pretty thorough with the waterproofing and careful not to breach it during tiling. Still dry now.
I wouldn’t do tiles on plaster for my shower. You are relying heavily on no water getting through the grout.
Have a bath/shower. Up against a stud wall I built. Just used standard plasterboard and tiled straight on it. Updated the grout about 4 years ago as we fancied a change from white to grey.
No leaks and no tiles have slipped. It has been in place for over 10 years now.
They tanking the shower area?
if its a plastered wall check the weight of tiles and adhesive your putting on it, most procilain tiles are to heavy for a plastered wall.
i don't use the cement boards behind tiles, marmox or similar is much better. easier to cut, fix and is waterproof, anything else needs tanking in wet areas.
