HI team, bit of a firstworldquestion! We're hoping to take the kids for their first beach/pool holiday and trip abroad next year in the Easter holidays (first half of April).

Does anyone have some recommendations of where to go? Had thought the Canary islands, but temps look to be around 20 degrees, and bit worried it might be a bit chilly. Mexico etc would be warmer but also cost quite a lot more than we can afford!

Well you're not going to do much better for temps in April than the Canaries unless you go nearer the equator or a continent. Egypt? Tunisia?

April will be fine in the canaries. Worked there for a year and by April there are plenty of hot days. Hell even in January by mid afternoon it was frequently t shirts.

i use this as a guide

https://championtraveler.com/travel-weather-map/

but short answer, gambia or cape verdi are both due south (no jetlag) and warm. I spent a few days on Sao Tome earlier in the year and it was amazing, might not suit your holiday desires though

I've been there in February and it was warm enough during the day for t-shirts and shorts, with warmer clothing during the night. The pool, however, was absolutely freezing. I can't imagine the sea would be huge amount warmer between February and April.

In fact I've just found this:

Owing to the same cold current that makes the climate so mild, the sea in the Canary Islands is not warm.

Sea temp in February is 19C, in April also 19C, so warmer than this country in summer.

Tenerife and Gran Canaria were both lovely temps around 20C in Jan 05 and 06 iirc, perfect for us, neither of us do well in intense hot sun. As to how things may have changed in the 16 years since, no idea!

Whilst not Caribbean hot, the sea off Tenerife wasn't wildly cold in April from memory. Been on a number of windsurfing trips then and wore same wetsuit as I would for UK south coast summer sailing.

The Caribbean would be my choice if you can stretch to it. We went in April quite a few years ago and it was bloody lovely.

As above, Canaries perfect at that time of year. More than warm enough.

Some great road riding to be had in Fuerteventura if that's your thing

Once you've visited Chipmunk Hill, that's pretty all that's left to do..

Thanks for that team. I don’t think we can stretch to the Caribbean but going to pop to hays at the weekend and see what they have. Sounds like the canaries is ok, might push it to may half term maybe!!!

Appreciate the advice 🙂 not sure I’ll get away with sneaking my road bike in the bag… 😂

Fuerteventura has the warmest climate of the Canary Islands as it is closest to the African mainland. I went there in April at Easter time a long while ago and we had temperatures in the mid 20s. Plenty warm enough to use the swimming pools in the hotel. On one day I can remember I even ventured into the ocean but it was fairly cold IIRC.

Have you checked the flight prices?

I checked for Aug next year this week and they were twice as much as I paid this summer.
