My mum has a VW T5 she uses for her dog showing, the reg is
" K9 5HOW " looks cool and didnt cost the earth

I can't help thinking that cannot possibly offer good value for money. Couldn't she get a multi-purpose reg so that she could use her VW T5 for shopping or whatever else she might need to ?

I don't know if they still own them but Manchester Audi used to have both AUD 1 and AUD 11. The dealer is owned by Jardine Motors who also own Abridge Loughton and Harlow (Volkswagen dealers). I can't remember which VW site it was, but they owned the registration number VW 1.

Barons BMW/Mini (Farnborough and Hindhind) own BUY 1 and BUY 2

I saw an X5 with K NOB as the number plate last year, I was surprised they had a sense of humour enough to take the p out of themselves.

Yes they do, saw AUD1 the other week, and it looked frickin awesome. I like personalised plates, as long as people haven't doctored them so badly that you can't work out the original plate. There was one locally that read 'RUMSY' but you couldn't tell the numbers at all. He's obviously been pulled up for it as it now reads R77 MSY 🙂

Oh and as already mentioned, M1NGE is on a Beemer in the Manchester area lol

Does no one else think a personalised number plate is just a complete waste of money in every way shape and form?

I have one on my car....for the previous owner. I think it was for his missus, pre-divorce hence why he didnt want to keep it and I imagine she's dropped her name.

I want to get rid of it but it's a specific name and initial.

Is it bad form/illegal to use 192.com to find people with the name and write to them individually offering them the chance to buy the plate?

Lots of plates being sold for mega money could have been purchased direct from the DVLA for £240 + vat and £80 fee. I wish I'd picked a few up in the mid 90's to sell on, I'm all up for 1000% profit.

Not at all. It provides an instant recognition of desperately pretentious and insecure middle-class car owners. And the more tenuous and meaningless the "cherished" plate, and the keener the attempts to make a number appear to look like a letter, the more desperate the owner. It also provides me with an opportunity, if I so wish, to accelerate that little bit quicker when the lights change to green, and thereby make them feel that little bit more insecure about themselves.

I always remember getting stuck in a traffic jam in my traveller days in a van with 10 other travellers and next to us was a magnum ferrari with the personalized reg of "chazzy"
He was middle aged with a wet look perm, chest hair and balding. Oh the fun we had with chazzzy till the road cleared.
Not a fan of them tbh except for the reason ernie says

They call them vanity plates in the states, which I think is a more accurate term.

Probably not much worse than the forum name you choose and how that determines the image you want to give to others.

No, on the contrary, I feel very smug and gain satisfaction knowing my reg irritates you immensely an annoys you so much that you feel the urge to race me. Money well spent!

knowing my reg irritates you immensely an annoys you so much

Why would it "irritate" me ?

Quite the opposite in fact ...... desperately pretentious and insecure middle-class wallies amuse me greatly ! 😀

And haven't you noticed all those drivers chuckling to themselves when they see your hopelessly sad "vanity" reg plates 💡

Well do you feel the need to race everyone else on the road with standard issue plates? No, so therefore my personalised plate rubs you up the wrong way, so much so that you have to try and prove you're a higher class of driver by racing at the lights.

Do you drive a nova? People like you make me smile too 🙂

You don't read my posts very well, despite C&P them, I said, "if I so wish". Often it's the completely reverse, if I think they're up for it, I will let them accelerate on the green light, and then very slowly move off, before pulling up along side them even slower, at the next set of red lights. I also like to be overtaken so that a few minutes later I can filter through on an underused inside lane, and end up several cars in front of them, despite have travelled at half their speed. Generally I take great delight in letting ****ers act like ****ers, an experience which is only enhanced by them having "cherished" number plates 8)

Edit : I didn't know that the W word was swear filter sensitive 😕

V14GRA is on an old Rav4 in sheffield. Not sure why you want to advertise your drug of choice though.

The Audi R8 down the road has V10 WTF, I'm assuming it is the V10 version....

I saw an Aston Martin with DB09 AMG. I quite liked that, it was enough to say "personalised plate" wihtout saying "pretentious ****"

Got overtaken once on the M40 by a Porsche with the plate TOO 5l0W.

If I so wish still intimates your need to from time to time - obviously you're a far superior driver than me - should I have the misfortune to come upon you on the highway I'll pull over and punish myself for interrupting your journey. I meanwhile will still be happy with my cherished plate (and the fact it's now worth 8 times what I purchased it for )

When I lived in Norf London aaaaages ago there was a car with tinted windows etc that drove round playing reggae and hip-hop loudly and stopping frequently along the back roads, presumably to conduct business, like the equivalent of an ice-cream van for stoners.

Reg plate: G4 NJA.

God knows how they avoided getting busted but they were at it for the whole two years I lived in the area, at the very least.

CRA 1G on the Aston belongs to the owner of a BMW independent garage (CRAMAG) in Leeds. Bought the wife's car there and the Aston was outside. V nice.

Most don't work that well but I can see why people have them on expensive cars like 911s etc as it disguises the age of the vehicle to people who aren't car bores.

Once saw two landrovers side by side at a scottish off road event...MUD 1E and LAN 1E. Liked that.

And at a Doune Classic event, way back, a guy called Campbell McLaren had his cars there. The registrations were XK 120, XK150, V 12 (on an MK3 E- Type) and then the cream of the crop...JAG 1 on his XKSS (D Type).

Pal has C8 SSY on his Sierra Cosworth that lives most of the year in a bubble !

Ive just applied to have a personal plate that came on my car changed back to a standard one. Putting the old plate on retainer for £105, going through online 192 searches for people and companies with the right kind of name and then mail-shotting them that the plate will be on eBay in a few weeks time. Should raise a bit of spare cash for something I give absolutely no value.
