Apple - what a farce

Got a free 3 month trial of Apple TV, I'm not an Apple customer. Set an account up Friday, verified everything, watched some Apple TV. Opened the app on my Samsung telly last night asked me to log in which I tried to do following the onscreen instructions, tried via the QR code on screen and by directly entering my password on the telly. Password was generated the night before using Google and automatically stored, email is correct as I had to verify it for the account setup. Anyway couldn't login, tried to reset the password but no joy apparently they had locked the account and I needed to request it to be unlocked. Got 2 emails telling me my request was denied this morning, no explanation.

Rang Apple customer services, chap with a difficult to understand accent was useless,  kept referring to Apple in the 3rd party, I eventually asked him if he was actually Apple customer services which he said he was. Long story short he  couldn't get the account unlocked and couldn't provide me with any explanation as to what had happened. Luckily it was just a free TV trial I've lost although they do have my credit card details, will be ringing the credit card people to ensure my free trial I can't access does not turn into a paid subscription I can't access.

So much for legendary customer service, no way I'd ever buy a device from them after this.

I’d be blaming Google and whatever password it attempted to store on your behalf. I’m reassured that Apple couldn’t unlock your account as it means someone couldn’t get mine unlocked if access was attempted by someone other than me. Presumably you didn’t set up any MFA / recovery accounts so yeah, locked out. 😕

Seeing as this was your first attempt at joining Apple you could try again with another email address….

You okay Hun? Do you need a hug? If you blacklist every tech company that is sometimes doesn't work as you would expect you will quickly run out of tech options.

We have multiple apple devices, non apple devices, tvs and accounts / family accounts. I am always surprised at how well Apple copes with loging in and out of devices and its wider account and password management. I'm sure it is not perfect, but on the rare occasion that there is an issue, it is usually user error.

Don't be a tool. It's not racism to not be able to understand someone with a strong accent.

I can be sympathetic because things haven’t worked out and now you can’t watch Fred Lasso.

I suspect it’s an aimed at people that have an Apple account already. Ours trial went smoothly.

Ampthill it wasn't, just gob smacked with Apple and very frustrated. I was annoyed when they blocked my account, probably as a result of me doing something wrong logging in (still don't know what), but get the security. So I rung their customer service, the AI was annoying but got through to a human pretty quickly who assured me several times he'd sort it all out quickly. Great I think. Things went downhill fast after that, the fact he kept referring to Apple as if it was a separate entity was the final straw.

Anyway just spent the last 20 minutes setting up a new Windows PC, synced everything up with Microsoft and Google without a hitch, even after entering an old password at one point.

So you set up an account for Apple TV, on a Samsung TV, using a Google account, and it’s Apple’s fault because none of their actual products were involved in the process?
Sighs, walks away.

As it should, it’s A Windows PC using Microsoft Windows ’ware. What’s your point, caller?
