My gf keeps getting irregular heart rate warnings on her iPhone saying she has a high heart rate when out and about. Today it was 104, however she was shopping at the time. 104 doesn’t seem high to me for someone out and about.  She said she didn’t feel great at the time but the Rythm looked as regular as clockwork when you looked at it in the app.

I thought an I watch only sent high heart rate signals when you are inactive?

I'd just go to the docs tbh. The latest Apple watch apparently has a bunch of analytics in the background based on the wealth of info they record and also (I seem to remember bought from fitbit). Not worth speculating over without getting checked and getting a proper ECG.

Has she got heart rate limits set in Health or anywhere else. If these are incorrectly too low it may trigger the warning perhaps?

Limits might be wrong - walking you'd expect the HR to be there or there abouts.

Also, is the watch fitted snugly - they don't work well if loose !

I think the limit is set at 100. Which makes sense if you are sitting around. Hence why I was wondering if the high heart rate notification only pings when it thinks you are inactive. Various google searches seem to suggest this is the case but no definitive answer

for clarity, not concerned as 104 when walking is totally normal. More questioning why it went off when it doesn’t usually (her usual average when walking is 112 according to her app, and it never sends an alert - I assume because it knows she’s moving)

The limit should be set at what her actual max HR is.

isnt the max only set to flag during exercise?

think I’ve figured it out. From the apple site..

If a patient’s heart rate is above 120 bpm or below 40 bpm while they appear to have been inactive for 10 minutes, the user will receive a notification. Patients can adjust the threshold bpm or turn these notifications on or off.

So it’s only meant to send a notification when the watch thinks you are resting. Clearly watch malfunctioned and thought she was inactive. Also just checked and  her limit was set to 100, rather than 120 hence why she got notified at 104 bpm
