What's out there? I have a few things that have been bought through itunes that i might want to play through the TV, but I have many more film clips of various formats that I will want to play through the TV. What is my best option?
I bought an apple tv recently, it's a great little bit of kit, however it's limited in the playback format in standard form, once the hackers have jailbroken it and written patches it will be a superb little bit of kit. Airplay launched today allowing you to stream content from your iPhone/iPod/ipad too
A nice cheap option is a DVI->HDMI cable (or otherwise depending on laptop/tv combo) and just play it off the mac/pc. Assuming you've a mac (you have IIRC?) then use an apple remote and front row?
Depends how often you want to do it.
Issue with bought iTunes stuff playback on anything non-apple will be the DRM.
Ah that might work. It's a MBP 13" that I have. it has a mini display port whatever that is. Does that carry sound too?
I am no expert but what about this?
You can get a mini-display port to DVI connector, then a DVI to HDMI cable (mine was about £4 on ebay).
No sound on DVI, so you need an audio cable too. I think you get some DVI-HDMI cables with a 3.5mm jack in them though.
Or just zip tie the audio cable to the video one, leave them plugged in the telly end.
There are lots of different ways to connect the two up though...
If your mac is new enough to put audio out the displayport this:

Will let you hook up with just an HDMI cable.
(they do different versions of the adapter though, need to get the right one: http://www.drbott.net/search/db.php?name=hdmi )
Ahah:
