About 20 mins ago my Apple TV came on and my TV went to the Apple Store (as it does normally) yet, before it got there the sync 4 pin code came up and I noticed “Tim’s iPad”
Tim’s my neighbor but 1..
Then within about 10 seconds the Apple Store showed again, but this time no movement of the icons..
So I pulled the plug out of my Apple TV and it’s sitting quietly and I’m back watching normal TV again.
Anyone had similar issues ?
It’s the first time I’ve ever encountered this situation..
Tim next door but 1 is stealing your wifi!
But the WiFi is secure Shirley ..
Only if you have changed it from the default settings.
Not used an Apple TV but chromecast and that sort has of thing use wifi/Bluetooth to set up so if close enough you could connect to it by mistake, my neighbours tv occasionally appears in the list of things my phone can cast its screen to.
^^ could be a Blutooth connection attempt, if your wifi has security and passwords your neighbour should be not able to see your Apple TV. Thats my understanding anyway.
Cheers, the WiFi was securely setup (sky) and password protected sonic happy with that.. Bluetooth is an interesting option because recently I’ve been leaving my Bluetooth on on my phone (for syncing to my car)
So I’ve turned the WiFi off (at mains) and Bluetooth off my phone..
I think Tim will be around in a few mins, Shirley he’s just into the meaty bits of a film 😆
You don't need to be on the same wifi network as an Apple TV to connect to it (it does something clever with wifi and bluetooth together).
Somewhere in the guts of the menu system you can put controls in place to limit what/who can connect to your aTV. I do this with my one at school to prevent pupils from putting their goat porn on my projector.
Oh, and it's possible that Tim was trying to connect to his own aTV but both yours and his have a generic name. You could rename yours to prevent confusion.
Cheers, as I said it looked like he tried to log in via the passcode and then failed (or realised) and it went no further.
I’ve read about the extra security and will do something tomorrow when I’ve got a bit more time.
Thanks for assistance chaps.
Expected it’d be a conflict when he’s trying to access his, then mine turned up.. I suspect too when the passcode appeared he realised (because my own devices are already synced to aTV) so probs he’s logged into his now..
.....
As he’s not come knocking 😆
