I find myself wanting to upgrade to an IPad Air 2, but have noted the Apple SIM option. Is this really what it sounds like - I could buy 1Gb of data from EE at at time I can't get onto wi fi, and use it like SIM only data?
As I travel it about, it'd be useful at times, and sounds ideal. Have I missed anything?
Yup. Save yourself a few quid and buy mifi box that isn't locked to one nextwork.
Or just tether it to your phone. That works fine for me and I'm in hotels 50% of the week.
Drac I already carry a work EE wifi box around for emergency laptop email / content access / online software demo. Best just to use that then, but slightly less conviemeient to not have it included in the device I 'spose.
This. http://shop.ee.co.uk/connected-devices/4gee-wifi
Less conveyant but a lot cheaper.
Probably much cheaper, 'cause do I really need to pay £500 for a 9.7" screen vs my current Mini + Logitech keyboard case...
Justification = small "movies"...?

As above we use a mobile wifi device, works really well. If reception is bad you stick it on window sill wherever in the room reception is best and then sit where you like. I much prefer iPad to Mini as I find thd mini screen too small, I have to expand the iPad view and use it in landscape as it is when typing without my glasses 😳
I definitely wouldn't pay for an iPad with sim
I get that. Currently testing the Mini+wifi box on a train 🙂
But I have a mini already so, £400 for a bigger screen (inc keyboard)and less portability seems a lot. But then you get into the specs and if you demo a Pro, its a big performance improvement over the Air 2, but is £100 more.
Slippery slope ! I can't see the logic of changing unless you really need the bigger sreen. Don't forget the Mini will have decent resale value though if you do switch
Hmm ... tempted ...
Anyone got this:

I've gone from a full size iPad to mini and wouldn't go back, much prefer the size of the mini. But then I have a MBP for proper work and just use the mini for reading the newspapers online etc....
I'm the opposite. Went from a Retina Mini, to an Air 2, and wouldn't go back. I originally justified the Mini for reading books, but then backlit Kindles came out and made that redundant. For surfing and basic productivity I found the Mini too small, even though the screen was great, I struggled with the tiny text.
Found the Air 2 much better and a vast change from my iPad 2 in terms of weight. Now trying to justify switching it to a 9.7in Pro, but that's a hard sell given I only use it to watch movies, surf (two handed), and write the odd email when travelling.

Apart from using MS Notes this is me. I do have a (work) laptop though, hence the struggle to work with the form of the Air 2, although I recognise for in-room movies the screen size is possible better.
Today is a classic example - Sky News/Sports/STW whilst eating my toast, STW on the train, notes at a customer meeting and now I write this on the Laptop as I pull together some content to send to the customer. I wear contacts so the text size isn't an issue.
Almost the same here. When at home content consumption is on the iPad, content creation is on the MacBook. Similar when away for work, but substitute shit Thinkpad for MacBook. Currently STWing on the Air, but about to watch a movie that's streaming from home over Plex.
