My wife has a MacBook Pro (possibly 2009) which she hasn't used for a few years. She now wants to look for photos on it which she doesn't have elsewhere. Unfortunately, and perhaps predictably, she can't remember either the user name or password. Does any Mac expert know of a way to access these?

what os x version is on it? you used to be able to just stick the install disk in and you could reset it that way. think maybe up to 10.5 or 10.6. defo 10.5 anyway as I had to do it earlier in the year.

It might be very difficult, especially if fileVault (HDD Encryption) is turned on. Can't she just remember the password?
