How long are these supposed to last? Have two; contacts looking distinctly worn after only about three months...
I've bought two eBay specials and both have lasted a week. Original apple one a year. In short they are shit !
Apple originals have been going 18 months which is as long as we've had them.

The one I got with my iP5 is perfectly fine, eighteen months old, used every night to charge the phone.
I've got eight or nine 30-pin cables, from various sources, in use for years, and so far only one has had the outer sheath split at the 30-pin end, and it works fine. Only issue I've ever had is fluff building up inside the socket.
The one that came with the iPad mini is about 18 months old and is fine. The two newer ones aren't. All a bit strange - might take them in to the Apple shop when I get a chance.
My Apple one is working fine after about a year.
The two cheap ones I got off ebay lasted about a day each.
The more expensive one I bought from Clas Ohlson seems much more substantial (and longer than the Apple one).
