A comparison of our newsletter to 10,000 people in education.

England - over 35% are on iPhone, iPad and Apple Mail
Scotland, Wales, NI - less than 10% on Apple....

Either people up here are less gullible or it is the Scottish aversion to fruit 😉 not sure about Wales an NI. Maybe it's an independence thing.

Or could it be a wealth thing? What was the breakdown for Android, Windows, desktops, etc?

Not sure but in the 90's, it was very much Scotland that had the Macs...

I worked at an outdoor/IT centre for school groups in the early 90's and pretty much all the groups we had from Scotland then had Macs.

Scotland
73.45% Outlook
6.27% iPhone
5.25% Google Cache
2.46% Chrome
2.21% Apple Mail

Englandshire
27.43% Outlook
15.85% Google Cache
14.19% iPhone
13.04% iPad
8.18% Apple Mail

I am guessing the unreported percentages are where browsers are refusing us their data, or percentages are so small.

It is probably more about network coverage where folk are accessing on phones, and which phones those suppliers provide. Scotland is a lot less populated and you have fewer options if you want a decent signal.

Or perhaps it is the tin-foil hat wearing lizard paedos.

good shout from Hels.

who are the recipients Matt?

Stats from a recent mail i sent to 6,000ish University applicants (weighted more towards the South West). So mainly 17 year olds at college:

iPhone 43%
Hotmail 15%
Google cache 14%
Apple mail 9%
iPad 6%
Chrome 6%

....

Windows Phone 0.3%

Is that a list of devices or mail recipients?

I do not know - that is the 'overview' stat shown, but I have to dial down into each user to find exact details...

email clients - but it's pretty vague.

Google Cache is basically Gmail, but potentially could be on any device. Apple Mail is Apple's desktop email client (ie. their version of Outlook).

As to 'chrome', i don't actually know what that denotes! I presume some form of webmail, but can't seem to find out for sure âž¡

Chrome is Googles internet explorer, so not a mail provider but can have links to open Gmail or other, so not a device (but could be on an apple device).

So for identifying devices it does show that some are on apple, but you dont know about the rest. The 73% of scottish on outlook makes me think most of them must have given a work email address over the english recipients? as outlook is primarily PC based and i doubt many link their home emails through outlook when online accounts provide online viewers?

yes but i don't quite know why the browser data is there -

i.e. i get stats for Hotmail, Yahoo, Google Cache etc, but also for Chrome and Firefox (but not explorer). But presumably these Chrome and Firefox figures are for people who are e.g. opening a Hotmail/Yahoo/Gmail message online? So I don't know why they're reported separately...

A quick browse of the first 50 contacts in each area shows that they are both similar levels of work emails. I am not counting them all though...

It's probably that the lazy ****less English are sciving off and using their phones in work time.

or

It's possible that the workshy soapdodgers of Scotland are doing it on their work pc...

either way - get back to work.
