For a new charger with cable it's £35 from the Apple store - seems a bit excessive but I've had some horror stories with the cheap ones. Anyone selling genuine or high quality ones a bit cheaper or do I just need to bite the bullet and get one with it?
Ta.
Amazon? I have a couple of their AmazonBasics charging cables and they seem pretty robust:

You can proper Apple ones on fleabay for a fraction of the price that Apple want
I wouldn't touch a third-party charger, especially a look-alike fleaBay one:

Just a few minor differences....

Are they really proper Apple ones though? I've had one that looked quite convincing that actually exploded.
Thanks nickb - I noticed they have a USB charger too. You would hope something actually branded Amazon might not be explodey.
OP: if your old charger has died then take it into the Apple Store.
They gave us a new one free of charge when we did that.
The Anker chargers are great - 5 ports on this one (so great for USB-charged lights, etc too).
Lightning cables - the cheap ones are terrible. Genuine Apple, or Belkin if you must go third-party.
Can't you just use any mains socket USB charger and plug the Apple cable in? If so, just get something like a Belkin charge and plug the Apple cable in.
Or is there some kind of electronickery that stops you doing this?
I know my ancient shuffle could be charged with any mains USB charger, so long as I plugged the Apple cable into it, to connect it to the multi-pin connector on the Shuffle.
The important part is the charger; the cable slightly less so, although it does have a chip built in. You can buy cheap Lightning cables, but you will get an error message saying that it isn't certified and may not work correctly. If all you want is to charge the device, then any USB wall-wart will do the job, try your local Currys/PCWorld, or get a named one from Belkin, Anker, etc, and get a couple of cheap Lightning cables from fleabay/Amazon. It's really important that the bit that goes into the wall is the quality bit, otherwise make sure your smoke alarms all have good batteries in.
I've got a couple of cheap Lightning cables, bought from a place in town that buys and sells electrical stuff, exc, exp, something like that, cost me £8 each. They seem to work fine, despite giving error messages.
I'd rather have that than waking up choking in a smoke-filled room.
If you are looking USB then Asda have them for £8 at the moment. I always used to be a pound shop hero for iPhone chargers but then they started making them breaky and exolodey
I'd rather have that than waking up choking in a smoke-filled room.

Not sure if the old one is an official one or not. Amazon basics one ordered. Thanks folks.
