Looking for a fitness tracking watch for my 8 year old. Anything better than a Fitbit Ace 2 which costs about £49.
You can get a new Garmin Vivosport on ebay for about a tenner more. I'm not familiar with the Ace but the Garmin is loads better than my old Fitbit.
Not having a tracker on an 8 year old?

I hear ya, but kids are fascinated by the gadgets that the grown ups use so enthusiastically. And whilst I’m no fan of pointless tech for kids, tech that generally encourages them to be more active seems to be fairly reasonable, better than an iPad and mine craft, anyway 🙄
in that case get them a cheapie HRM that works off their wrist that isn't web enabled

Link to such a product?
I'd like a basic and cheap standalone HRM/Stopwatch/Watch for my 8yo. I don't want a smartphone requirement.
As a bonus I *would* like a GPS route tracker with it *but* I can' see that escisting without involving smartphones which is a deal breaker.
Ideas?
Ok so maybe i hadn't realised you would need a smart phone to actually see the data. Does anybody know what you can see on the watch itself as she wont have a phone so would need to be linked to my phone which might just make it a pain.
My girls got the original Fitbit Ace for their Christmas last year (then aged 8 & 9). The display is quite basic on the watch itself, but they both use them to make sure they do enough activity during the day (not prompted by me). They get rewards for hitting step counts etc. I was surprised about how much they encourage the kids to step away from the TV and actually do something.
I have them synced to the App on my phone and it's not much of a pain at all.
We got one of ours a Huawei Band 2 Pro a while back from Argos for £40. It was pretty much ideal for him, in that it tracked HR, sleep, steps as well as runs, swims or bike rides with its own GPS.
Many of the cheaper ones (and some of the more expensive ones) rely on the GPS on a linked smartphone in order to track activities, whereas this one did it itself.
You do need to have it sync'd via the inevitable app on a smartphone, but I just put the app on mine, and he could look at it when he was curious about how far he'd ridden etc.
Xiaomi Mi Band, £20-ish from Ali Express, etc?
Fitbit app works fine on tablets - no need for a phone
