Want something small and light

Doesn't have to be Apple

I think the answer is no, or at least I havent seen anything. Not a fan of Apple but that appears to be the best in terms of battery life, storage, size and robustness. I use mine regularly for listening to language courses and podcasts (Rock and roll I know!)
I have to use over ear headphones as in spite of trying others they eventually slip out of my ears. Hook over ones are the only ones that stay in for up to a couple of hours for me.

SanDisk Clip Sport

+1

Cheap and cheerful and does the job. Massive plus over Apple is it will take up to a 128GB memory card I think, so you can carry more music than you'll ever get through.

jam bo, this is the ultimate solution to the spotify problem. Mighty. But being kickstarter its not real yet.

I still love my 6 (ish) year old shuffle. It looks like the newest one but I guess there's a difference by now.

I think it's 8Gb which is still a lot of music. When your search and playback is limited, a massive collection isn't necessarily a benefit.

Shuffle is good and you can get internally waterproofed ones which work for swimming, so should be pretty much indestructible 🙂

Slightly more expensive option are Bragi Dash, I like mine, but only about 3 hours use between charges.

Cheers, Rich

I have washed both my shuffles numerous times and they are still doing strong.
I don't think I could find anything better for running.

Waterproof, charges quickly and no annoying dangly wires.

+1 Sansa Clip

Cheap, FM radio, SD slot, screen, good battery life, small & light.
I've been happily using one for 2/3 years now with no bother.

Supposedly but I have never done so with mine. It has survived some fairly torrential downpours though.

The review at the link below did not rate them very highly for pool use.

Sorry Trail Rat just seen this. The ones I use are the ones Gibbsyrabbit has linked to by coincidence. Had them for a couple of years and despite Mrs Surfer treating me to some Bose ones which are ace I always keep them for Best 🙂 and use the cheap ones!

I use the Sony walkman for swimming. Works really well as long as you take a minute to get the right fit.

Still use my shuffle for running though... find ear buds are perfect
