Looks like I can get quite a good SIM only deal as I have BT broadband

Yes, did the same and transferred over from Vodafone (with great amount of hassle/stress caused by their pitiful customer service)

Happy with it, slightly worse signal strength but generally faster data, I have been getting a lot more spam calls though and endless texts saying 'you've missed a call but they didn't leave a voicemail' despite no call appearing on my phone (quite frustrating).

How important is it to have a mobile phone? If you like paying for a phone but have no intention of using it then
bt could be just the ticket . Bt have dicked my friend around for 3 months with his. A break through this week is being able to receive texts. Can't send them, or make or receive calls though.

BT are using the EE network for there mobile service. Loads better than VF or O2 at present IMO.

J4mie, pretty sure you can turn off those sort of alerts, you can also get enhanced message alerts so you can see if it was a 1 second blank voicemail or who left it.

BT say they don't support tethering which is a shame for a 4g 20gb deal, but has anyone used it? On a friends phone I was able to turn it on and connect and browse but that doesn't mean it would work without issues. Perhaps they just don't offer technical support for tethering.

Three is worth a look. Seems to be very cheap call rates for PAYG compared to others I looked at. Plus you credit doesn't expire which is good if you're a low level user like me.

They're also good, because you can buy add ons which give you much cheaper calls and data usage while you're abroad.

Yes I'm using them in 7stanes country. As above it is just EE network, with added bonus of 4G being available in built up areas on the cheap BT contracts.

All has been good so far
