Considering putting one on my xmas list.
I've seen a few reviews that they are not great with smaller pots. Anyone with any experience? I've got a set of solo pots for one and some larger pots and keen to ensure it will work for solo trips without feeling I have to carry the bigger pots.
I have a Whisperlite International  - it doesn't play well with weenie pots as the arms are too widely spaced - I've only really used it in the arctic in winter, so used a big pot to melt snow anyway
How small do you want to go?
How small do you want to go?
Current solo pot (and cup/mug it nests into) is only 9.5cm in diameter. Its the perfect kit to put a single small gas cylinder into along with a pocket rocket or similar. It could just be that on trips that deserve/need the whisperlite I just carry bigger pots too to make the most of it. It'll be for longer trips where you might expect to do slightly fancier cooking or colder trips where snow snow melting is a thing.
Well if you want to use it for more substantial cooking then I guess you don't have an issue with the small pot which is essentially a cup I suppose. The lightweight alu pot I use when travelling light fits over the end of my sleeping bag so doesn't really take up room. It can then dig into your back a little when using a super light rucksack.. but it's a proper pot and you can cook in it.
Dont put a whisperlight on your xmas list, you'll end up having the stove for 20 years and wont be able to lust after new lighter options. The damn thing will just keep on working even if these days the roughest environment its used in is making hot chocolate at wet rugby tournaments.
