Living with an Inher.
I made that up, Involuntary Hermit.
Nice guy and lovely scenery, the weather though, my God, the weather!
Edit: Actually "inher" might not catch on so well.
Yep watching, he's led an interesting life
Fogle? Nice bloke, went to an evening with him doing a talk, inspirational guy. Rowed Atlantic, Marathon de Sable, Everest. Like his TV stuff too, kind of has that way of asking the pertinent Q’s.
That was great, what a charming guy. Just looking at his house on the OS map, it really is the back of beyond!
Wonder if he's had enough of film crews yet, pretty sure Frankie Boyle was there too.
What was Boyle there for??
It was that tour of Scotland series he did a year or two back. It was the caravan in the tree that jogged my memory.
Knew I'd seen the caravan in the tree before!
Ah!
Cheers @Spin.
Am I the only person that though, "I want to do that," when they saw the tree caravan?😁
Liked that. The blokes house and lifestyle reminds me a lot if my dad strangely (and Mrs F keeps pointing out I'd end up like that if I was single😂).
I have lots of respect for Ben's achievements and I'm even a bit jealous if the things he gets to do in the name of light entertainment, but unfortunately Fogle is on the list if people who I wouldn't get tired of punching in the face. Just can't take to him.
only caught 5 minutes, might re-watch assuming Ben starts being less of a ****. WTF is wrong with eating road kill, why would it taste any different?
(oh I see from fettlin poast, he's not universally adored)
I think you’ve misunderstood the meaning of involuntary.
Missed this last night, my Kindle won't play it so I'll watch later. I know Jake, quite a character. I wouldn't say he's very remote, his house is on one of the main forest roads in the Clash, about half a mile off the A941 Rhynie to Dufftown road.
Also look for the film 'Two Years at Sea' about Jake.
I wouldn’t say he’s very remote,
This sums up a few of the series so far though. The Icelandic one had him swinging in over a river after a few mile walk up a trackless valley - yet the host's own website and Google maps show the road right to the house, the river crossing is to the ruined and deserted farm opposite, the centre usually has a staff member in addition to the guy shown 'living alone', and the final hot waterfall is apparently not on his land and is a drive away from the centre. It is bordering fabrication...
That said, I do enjoy the way Ben asks some pretty direct questions at times and the character of the people he meets.
Can't be bothered with Ben Fogle but I think I'll give "Two Years at Sea" a watch.
I think the source material is getting thin on the ground now. Plus, most of the 'tasks' Ben gets roped into are lame to say the least. 'gravelling' the bottom of Irish guy's walls & helping him paint it pink, FFS.
I really like Lives in the Wild.
Many of the people he visits are living close to how I would like to live; Mortgage free, mostly self sufficient /growing your own and a step back from society.
Sure some are too out there, but there are plenty of ideas to be had. The guy with his methane composter was brilliant, for example.

That guy is a good example of someone who is still very much part of society. Dependant on town for all his supplies and his income. The whole episode felt more like a feature length advert for his getaway.
The same for the Irish guy on the island. His lifestyle is pretty much exactly like that of my uncle, except he lives in Essex. Quit his high paying job. Lives alone. Grows veg.
However, the family on the side of a hill in Wales I thought were brilliant. Tucked away, self sufficient yet not a million miles away from normality. Probably put up a more solid /rust proof structure than some old horse boxes.
I like Ben.
