Great stuff!
Occassionally stating the obvious, but an interesting insight into the effects of the lack of light and space in modern homes on our psychological and physical wellbeing.
Loved the section at the end on the egalitarian 'self build city' - yes it looked a bit chaotic and there where designs that I thought looked a bit pants, but these were mixed with others that I thought were stunning.
I think he summed it up perfectly when he said that we need to stop seeing our homes as a financial commodity and more as an expression of our identity and individuality. Although having previously spent two years arguing with planners over a proposed self build design that was based on curves (to help reduce the impact of gale force winds and increase heat retention), I think we are a long way off an acceptance of individual design.
Yep, good programme. Loved some of the stuff in the Dutch town...though I imagine having a load of self builders means a bit of a chaotic site for a while. I'm willing to bet there are certain restraints on just what you can and can't do there but the expression in the homes looked cool.
I couldn't help feeling a self build might happen round here at some point.
I used to work for Simon Thurley.
He was an arse!
