The White House has condemned a conference in Jerusalem attended by more than ten members of the Israeli government - calling for settlements to be re-established in Gaza, along with the mass relocation of the Palestinian population. The US called the rhetoric at the gathering "incendiary and irresponsible".
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has insisted that Israel has no intention of occupying Gaza after the war, claimed the conference did not represent official policy.
If this is not official Israeli policy then it appears that Netanyahu has lost control of his parliament
Let's have a party! 🎉
A guest on PM on R4 mentioned this - relocating a population is a war crime, no? Calling for it to be done - does this constitute it too?
The UK and US are already in the wrong side of history. Anything other than the utmost condemnation and reversal of support for Israel will entrench this further.
honestly, ive just checked the forum rules to see if this isnt explicitly banned following the closure (understandable) or a number of threads.
I have no useful contribution to make
Why should this be banned?, is it not then hypocritical to keep the Ukraine thread open?

It will end the same way, it's inevitable.
Just grab some popcorn, strap in and wait for the ****ery to begin.

This man can see into the future, I'll put a tenner on it.
Just grab some popcorn and strap in and wait for the ****ery to begin.
It doesn't need to end like that, if we do not use inflammatory language nor post abusive comments at individuals it should be kept open. Whether we like it not this conflict if not reined in by the USA and its allies will affect us all
It doesn’t need to end like that
No, it doesn't. But it does.
Every. Single. ****ing. Time.
^^ Youre even holding the dildo of inevitability.
That's a new dildo subgenre. I'm claiming it.
If this is not official Israeli policy then it appears that Netanyahu has lost control of his parliament
That would imply he ever had full control.
Its a loose alliance at best with anyone who offered him some support in order for him to keep beating the threats of prison.
Every. Single. ****. Time.

Then I suggest we do not acknowledge such posts and ignore them.

sorry somafunk, im not saying it should be a banned topic, just that i literally had to check the forum rules to see if it has been specifically banned (either sides views), yet, or if the threads only get locked as the regulars just cannot keep it within the current regs... as of today, its the latter
not sure if just continually and deliberately thrown off track by the usual suspects, or if its just so polarising that it cant be discussed rationally (on here)
as you were.

Define 'off-track'. Actually for that matter define 'usual suspects'. I seem to remember the original Palestine thread descended into chaos due to posts from people who hardly ever post elsewhere.
There is a Louis Theroux documentary on, what I'd call, extremist settlers into Gaza (I think). It was pretty unsettling and illustrated why peace will probably not come soon. The docu is a few years old now.

As I’ve said on other threads, the main issue that affects all of the Middle East, Israel included, is extremist fundamentalism. As conflict has been deliberately perpetuated in the region, to ensure the flow of money via oil and arms sales, the inevitable consequence is that such extremism has flourished, as any attempt at democracy or political ‘normality’ is futile, and thwarted at every turn. So the only thing left that people have to turn to for social organisation is fundamentalism. Extreme ideology is always the consequence of war, oppression and trauma. This trauma becomes generational; modern history is littered with conflicts arising from colonial oppression. The inherited trauma within the Jewish diaspora has led to the rise of Jewish fundamentalist extremism, that we are now witnessing with the alarming rise to power of such far right organisations in Israel. And obviously this has then led to the formation and rise of Hamas as a resistance against such extreme opposing ideology. Fundamentalist settlers in Israel have been allowed, in violation of international law, to colonise Palestinian lands, in the belief that the land belongs only to Jews. Of course, this isn’t an ideology shared or supported by the majority liberal secular Israelis, but a blind eye has been turned for too long, as it has in many other places. The rise in the numbers of fundamentalist settlers has led to far right Israeli political parties becoming ever more powerful, and increased violence and aggression towards Palestinians. And in reaction, Hamas have also grown more popular. So this has to be looked at not as a Jewish/Muslim problem, but one of extremism. The settlers genuinely believe that they have a God given right to that land, it is way beyond political. They have had fundamentalist ideology drummed into them since birth; a repressive and ultra conservative social structure means many Orthodox Jews simply do not get an education much beyond very basic levels, and with very little understanding or knowledge of the outside world. We see exactly the same in Afghanistan, where religious leaders enforce intellectual oppression. The naturally curious mind, starved of wider stimulation and learning, becomes fearful and defensive. And we all know where this leads.

I’d urge anyone wanting to understand this situation, to consider the effects of fundamentalism in this sense, and just how dangerous it is. As democracy is being rapidly eroded around the globe, so such fundamentalism can only flourish. We are headed back towards the dark ages. It’s really utterly depressing. In an individual level, I refuse to let my identity as a Muslim be determined by a bunch of twisted ignorant hateful old men in Iran, Saudi Arabia or anywhere. The positive aspects of faith and religious culture are many and wonderful. Don’t let them be destroyed by hate.
