I was thinking of going for a dual monitor setup but the 34 inch 21:9 look good, especially as there is no bezel to get in the way. I'm mainly doing development and office based stuff so the bezel isn't really a deal breaker. Any recommendations?
We've recently upgraded to 2x 27" 16:9 Dell monitors - Dell 2719H model.
That's a native resolution of 1920x1080 each and while they are great for 3-D cad & multi-tasking, you have to do a lot of head-swivelling if you want to work on the full width of both screens.
I've got both screens pushed as far back as I can on my desk & I reckon I still mainly use one monitor, with the second one being used for supporting files that i might need to refer to every now & again like pages from our data management system, or spreadsheet stuff.
I didn't realise you could get 21:9 ratio screens. If I had, I would have perhaps mentioned them to our IT guy when he came around & asking what we thought about BIGGER, MOAR etc. monitors.
I suspect one of those would have been an ideal solution & probably cheaper than 2x 16:9 monitors...
I've had a 21:9 3440x1440 screen for a few years now. They are awesome, mine is mostly used for gaming stuff but the Mrs used it for a few months to work at when she was working at home, she usually has spreadsheets, project planning, email, remote desktop sessions and god knows what else open at once, she loved it, claims her productivity went way up because of it and had been subtly pestering me to donate it to her office..
#EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention it's a Dell U3415W, curved IPS screen. It's a couple of models out of date now but it's been flawless and I'd definitely have another one.
Used a 34" ultrawide at a client for a while, it was very nice.
For home I bought a Samsung 40" 4k TV. About as wide and a similar pixel density, but with more height. It's similar to having four 20" 1080p displays but no bezels.
TV is a good shout simon_g so I'll try a 37 inch one we have that is due for a swap out.
I find, for development or anything that takes up screen real estate, that moar pixels is better.
I'd rather have a single high-res monitor than dual 1080p - especially now the Win10 snap feature is so good.
That said, I couldn't afford a 4k monitor, nor was I sure my little work laptop would drive one so I got a 2560x1440 one. I would have got 3440×1440 if I could have found one at reasonable price that fitted on my desk at home.
Why is it called 21:9?
Both are divisible by 3, so surely it's 7:3.

So you don't have to do maths when comparing it to 16:9.
Triple 24" Dell Dell UltraSharp U2414H 1920x1080 setup here. Went for these due to the minimal bezel.
Works really well with the outside screens slightly angled. But I also make use of Windows + CTRL + D to give me multiple virtual desktops as I needwant more than 3 screens.

Marketing. Bigger numbers better, obvs. I was looking at a phone the other day which boasted an 18:9 aspect ratio. Erm...
21:9 is not an actual screen aspect ratio, it actually covers a few similar aspect ratios that all fit into the ultrawide category.
4k Monitors really do make a huge difference, the extra height over ultrawide is very handy when especially if you are coding. If I was gaming I think I would want something smaller than the 40" I currently use at work but for all office based work the monitor is awesome.
I'm using two 27" monitors, head swivelling was an issue for me also and I tended to scatter stuff across windows so it would get messy. I experimented with having one screen in front and the other in portrait as my second screen which worked well, but then I realised I could do the same in landscape with no drawbacks. So now I've got one main screen directly in front, and one off to the side and angled towards me as the second screen for emails, referring to sources etc.
Also means you have a handy area behind the monitor to hide your coffee and bits and bobs from light fingered colleagues 😉
if you have more than one window open with these wide screens , do you have to resize each one to half of the screen width or is there a way to snap them to half the secret width ?
34” dell here. Love it.
You do need to know how to use windows though, and not just full screen everything. Even 50/50 snap is too big, but depending on OS/window manager you don’t need to.

Samsung 34" UWQHD flat screen here - reckon it's good value at the typical price of around £400 and absolutely stonking value if you get it for anything like the price I paid - a stupidly low Amazon "Black Friday" price @ £140 😀.
You got a cracking deal on the Samsung tonyplym. In the end I've gone completely bananas and bought a Philips 40 inch curved 4k UHD monitor from amazon. I snagged it at £389 and now it's gone up to £528 in just 2 days.
First impressions are errr it is massive.
