So, Jnr took his Rab waterproof to school yesterday due to forecast thunderstorms for the 2 mile walk back (which never materialised of course), and managed to tear it on an exposed screw left in a toilet cubicle.

Wondering about sending it to Rab to see if they can do a decent repair on it - only got it a month ago in preparation for his summer trip to the US, so a bit peed off about it. Any recent experience re time/cost/quality of their repairs?

Used it before to replace a panel in a down jacket after a similar rip and also to have a re-fill of down.
Great service.

The shoulder seams on an old Strata jacket went where they'd been under pack straps, they did a very nice repair. Can't comment on cost, they didn't charge even though I was happy it was down to fair wear and tear. If you send them pics I think they'll give you an estimate.

Ugly Gore-Tex repair patch will work just fine, and teach him to be more careful in future.

Thanks guys - I've sent off the online form to Rab.

The school are having a freak out about how a screw point was left sticking through a toilet cubicle wall. His mum is freaking out because it was so new. It's an outdoor jacket intended to be used - could have got torn in any number of circumstances. M'eh!

That's very sanguine of you, it'd grit my shit a bit if a jacket of mine got ripped by a carelessly placed screw. I don't much mind my bike picking up scratches and dents on the trail, I'm less happy if it happens when some blend carelessly dumps his bike against it at the caff.

I ripped a new down jacket a few years ago on only the second time of wearing it. A big tear right across the chest. Sent it back to Rab and they replaced the whole panel. Brilliant job. Money well spent.
