My Rab jacket needs a clean after getting a very squashed banana all over it when in my pack skiing!! I am fully aware i could home clean it and tumble dry but the tumble drier is a condensing one so not that great at drying down. It is also time consuming to do, stopping every 30 mins and shaking etc to separate the feathers. I am looking at the RAB service but at £35 it seems a little steep! Has anyone used it? Worth it? Any other options?
Been drying down jackets for years in my condensing dryer. Just stick it in dryer for two hours, on the timed setting not the auto setting. It'll be fine. No need for tennis balls or any other nonsense.
the condensing drier doesn't work so well tho as it puts water in and heats it up to create steam/heat to dry (i think)

I clean my down jackets in ours, works absolutely fine.
I've dried outdoor stuff like Arc'teryx plus designer jackets like moncler etc. All work fine. Just stick it on the longest timed setting. I guarantee it'll be fine.
I use a local dry cleaners, they have a down washing service. Costs 12 quid.
Rainbow cleaners in Eastwood if you're nearby.
Never had an issue drying my Rab down jacket in a condensing dryer.
I use one of the spiky plastic ball things and it works perfectly.
Yep I dry down jackets and gillets in a condensing dryer here as well, and its always worked. I use low setting and a couple of tennis balls.
Nikwax down cleaner in washing machine.
I used it once on my rab jacket. It was covered in dirt and general grime. Tried to wash and dry it myself and it didn't come properly clean. Sent it to rab a few months later and it came back like new.

You think wrong. It recovers heat from the exiting warm moist air to preheat the incoming dry air and thus cools down the exiting air and pulls out the moisture from it to go into the water tank/pipe.
Thus less energy use and no need for a pipe through the wall.
Makes no difference to drying anything.

Have a look in a dictionary to see what the word condense actually means.
And whilst you're doing that, stick the duvet in the dryer like everyone says. 🙂
I washed my jacket last week and the down seems to have clumped together in some seams, leaving other areas without down. This wad after shaking it well after washing!
I’d send it off to be washed myself!!
Phil studied Thermodynamics.
TBH i am not remotely arsed about my understanding of tumble driers and their inner workings, all i know is that ours is temperamental and shite and will it mess up my coat that cost north of £150!!

Have you cleaned the filters lately 🙂
nope and don't intend to do so 🙂

Righto. So we've found the problem and indeed the solution... buy a new dryer
And tell us what make it is so we don't buy the same one.

Did you throw in a couple of tennis balls into the drier? They help break up the clumps as it dries.
Yes, comes back like new. I've sent mine there when needing repair and a clean. But then only being 15 mins away I can drive up and drop it in. I've washed others at home using down wash and then soft ball de clump if tumbled. Else a good whack at the line on a warm windy day,
