MrsIHN is uncomfortable using an axe, so I thought something like this might be the answer. The logs it'll be splitting are the dumpy-bag delivered type, so already split into medium to large-ish pieces (and seasoned), this would be to split them down into smaller pieces for final use.
Anyone used one, any good?
Yeah, that's it, ta.

Interesting - I've heard of people asking for shorter logs, but not for them to be split further.
Is it to create kindling or something else?
Those foot operated splitters work, but they are slow.
Is it to create kindling or something else?
Yeah, kindling/starter stuff, and some of the logs are still a bit too big for the stove or are totally cylindrical, and the latter don't seem to burn as well somehow, they're better halved.
Slow is necessarily a problem, it's only for doing a few at a time, not a whole dumpy bag full.
Nervousness around an axe is understandable.
The other non axe but non powered splitter is the slide hammer-esque splitter. I haven't used one but imagine it would be quicker but less powerful.
A cheaper less aesthetic option could be to use a car tyre? You put the logs inside the tyre and then split them in situ. They don't fly around so it feels safer.

Get a kindling cracker?
I use one all the time. One log in the hole, the next log i use as a hammer. No moving parts.
I have never heard of anyone having issues with logs being too big for a stove - is it a very small stove? Have you considered looking to another supplier for your logs that might do a better job of splitting them?
Also, a log grenade is good for splitting whole logs.

Cheaper than a kindling cracker

I have a forestmaster electric splitter, good bit of kit and they were very helpful when researching it. Should've bought it years ago it makes tge job very easy.
Their slide hammer one looks interesting

Not sure why anyone is hung up on the OP wanting to split some logs! I'd definitely want to split a few into smaller sizes for better lighting and heat control. Just 'cos it'll fit in the stove, it doesn't mean it'll necessarily burn that well and he didn't say he needed to split everything delivered!
Cheers all. I was also looking at the kindling cracker/splitting axe base type stuff, good to know people find them useful.

Amen, brother.
Another option could be using a froe instead of an axe. Much less scary/dangerous.
I have never heard of anyone having issues with logs being too big for a stove – is it a very small stove?
we’ve got a really small Hobbit stove (fits into old fire surround) - I have to cut my logs in half lengthways (as in shorter) to make them fit!! 🤣🤣🔥🔥

My wife has a voice activated log splitter - she seems quite pleased with it as most of the time it remembers the circumstances of the last command and auto repeats.
The pallet in front suggests your telling porkies that's a ginormous stove.
I have the FMMS one shown above. Have used it to split up wood in the round too, which is harder work. It's very effective at making a bit of kindling and also splitting logs to the right height so I can get a 3-4 high jenga game in the stove for top down method.
