With a knife would be my suggestion and then heat shrink the tails

What exactly is un clear ? Surely it’s just a piece of wire that you can strip with a knife, scissors or your teeth ?

Looks like there are 3 layers of outer you need to cut through.
Rather than a knife, I'd use one of these and do it a layer at a time.

I thought £15 per metre for speaker cable was expensive until I found the 600 quid mains cable...

£600 mains cables are entry level.

That's quite reasonable.

How about:
£4699 mains power cable

You can upgrade the fuse for only another £155 as well.

£3230 USB cable

That's per meter if you go for all the spendy options.

It looks suspiciously like its been cut out of some old anglespoise lamps aswell..

The mains cables are hilarious. Totally disregard what the rest of your house behind the plug socket and the street to your house are cabled with 😂

An acquaintance of mine is now looking at aftermarket power supples for his turntable. I had pointed out that when he acquired it for a considerable sum in the late 80s, our power came mostly from big spinning rotors next to coal or nuclear boilers which are an inherently stable way of doing things. Now, with our power coming largely from wind, a blustery day would render the thing practically unlistenable. Hook, line and sinker.

You will need a DU blade to get through the 5G tinfoil shield!

I would split down the middle about 10 cm, then remove a layer at a time with a knife in the usual way.

A sharp pair of scissors and a steady hand.

Stanley knife might help split/take the outer shield off.

Looks like the 13A mains cable suggested would be an upgrade! Does a doorbell go on the other end? 😉

This made me laugh out loud though:

"Speaker cable direction

Almost all speaker cables, in fact almost all audio cables, be they for digital or analogue are, in our experience, directional in that the sound will be better with the cable connected in a specific direction. Chord speaker cables should be connected so that the print on the cable reads in the direction of the signal. In effect, the C of Chord should be nearest the amplifier."

This tipped me over the edge

"Burning-in cables

[...] As a general rule though, most speaker cables need at least 100 hours use before all the improvements they will bring to the performance of the system can be properly experienced."

(all this and more at snake oil central )

(Sorry OP - I realise this is like mocking religion :-/ )

True audiophiles don't use mains electricity.

Suck ma bawz.

Soooo.... You go a shielded cable (that speaker cable doesn't need.)

You chopped the shielding away at the end... So you now have an unshielded cable... Good job.

At least Chord don't claim that their USB and ethernet cables improve the audio... although the reviews they link to do. FFS.

Although their sister company English Electric goes full on woo with an audiophile-grade ethernet switch!

https://englishelectric.uk

Why spend a £20 on a switch when you could spend £450!

Remember when having your phone near the speaker made it go mad when you got a text?

Yup, that renders it pretty pointless. Surely you should earth the shielding at the speaker (which wouldnt work as cabinets arent metal) and the amplifier.

Surely the biggest hurdle is having to convince the artists to go back and re-master all their recordings using shielded mic cable rather than meerly starquad with XLR ends?

Actually it's perfectly valid to only connect the shielding at one end if you want.  It's also valid to not connect it at either end.  It depends what you are shielding against and how the noise is being injected (common mode/differential mode).  The shielding is much less effective if not connected at either end but it will still do something against some types/sources of noise (but not all)

It is also of course a complete waste of time in this context.  See also the noise insulating feet on that ethernet switch FFS.  Part of the enjoyment of audio is how much money you burn on stuff that does nothing and if that alters the 'sound stage' then so be it

I've half a memory that that's exactly what you're supposed to do, but cannot now remember the context where I heard that.

I can beat that. I defy anyone to improve on this peak audiobollocks: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/hificritic/vol5_no3/listening_to_storage.htm

Or how about $4200 speaker feet

it depends on what you are shielding against and why.  Sometimes you want to create and extended 'pipe' from one piece of equipment to another by using foil shielding and connecting at both ends.  Sometimes that makes things worse.  The end you connect at depends on the source and what you are shielding against and why

When I used to design stuff we would start with what we thought was best but then try other stuff as well as it's not always obvious what the worst source of noise will be

In this case of course the noise is all in the marketing

It's not crystals and ley lines.

Can we make something with crystals and ley lines?

I reckon we could swing a genuine audiophile product involving crystals and ley lines.

Include a free druid or virgin or something.

Nope, i do remember when the tiny interference was picked up by the amplifier or line cables between source and amplifier and amplified so you can hear them in the speakers though.

You even pointed out yourself cabs aren't shielded so it would still happen.
