Got someone coming to visit.
If they save us £1000 they want £450 of it for 5 years.
Sounds like free money to us. Any catches we should be aware of?
Sounds like free money to us
sounds like a scam to me.
wanna buy some magic beans?
We used one in the past, I don't know the ins and outs as it was just before I joined the Co.
This particular firm were a bunch of crooks, they wanted an equally large slice of the pie for their services.
At some points during proceedings they went bust, or a least ghosted us.
Ironically perhaps, during our conversations trying to fix the mess they made after the fact it seemed we'd made a fundamental error when we moved into our building. We were paying rates on the whole thing because we rent the whole building, makes sense. But it's not one office per-se, its a group of small offices set up for micro businesses, we use less than a 3rd of it and sub-let the rest. By sub dividing the building with the council we fell below the minimum threshold and got a massive rebate.
Yes and got ripped off. Found out after i could have done it for FREE by contacting the valuation office, The one i was involved with you paid if the valuation office accepted the 'claim' which they do in 90% of the cases.
There was lots of other small retailers/newsagents caught up in it too.
Do your homework first.
The company was Strattons & co the 'consultants' name was Brian Bloodworth from Manchester.
Since wound up.
Business rates isn't rocket science, there's a simple formula to work it out, plus a fairly small list of possible discounts.
The only thing I could think of that they might do is argue a lower rateable value with the Valuation Office, but there's nothing to stop you doing that yourself if you think the figure they're currently using is too high.
You don't need their services, you can log on and see how your rates compare with nearby properties, and then raise a case if you want to pursue it.
You will need to provide a reason/evidence to support it - I worked in business rates under the old system when these cowboys could just launch speculative appeals and tied up thousands of tax payers pounds in staff and resources on cases that were withdrawn or thrown out.
