Evening
Anyone have one of these? I'm looking for a new phone and these keep cropping up as good value for money. But I also read about the Miui system and people thinking it's a bit marmite, also ads popping up on the phone.
Are they worth a punt or am I better off just going with whatever Motorola G is around the £200 Mark.
Using a Galaxy S7edge at the moment, but the battery is on it's last legs I think.
Ta
My Pocophone is grand thanks. Not aware of Miui adverts at all. Have always been an android user. Sister's family all have them too.
The only ads I see are in the Play Store when downloading an app.
Mrs Zip has a 10t lite which performs brilliantly but is too big and heavy.
I’ve just bought a used 9 t lite which is perfect.
Yep a note 9 pro and the missus has a note 9. Both superb handsets, coming from a history of Motorola G series. Quick, lovely displays and cases, had zero issues with them and it's pretty easy to free them of the Xaiomi bloatware.
I have one. Other than it being quick I don't like it at all and much prefer my old Moto G6. The UI isn't great, though I run a different launcher. There's a shed load of bloatwear that you can't remove and will likely never use, some of which you're forced to though and is poor in comparison to my preferred options. They're also loaded with adverts. There are a load of in built quirks that don't make any sense at all and I've had trouble running widgets such as poweramp. The really useful things on the Moto G phones, shake to turn the torch on, rotate to activate camera and sound options are lacking. I wouldn't buy another and I wouldn't recommend one.
Had a 9T pro for 18 months. I think it's a cracking phone: nice size, good screen, quick, good camera and I think MIUI is fine. It comes with some embedded apps but no more than a Galaxy say and I've never had to use any of them. It's no Galaxy 10 or iPhone 12, but at the price point I think its hard to beat.
Typing this on a ~18 month old Mi A2, after my Maze Alpha died on its first drop from my shirt pocket. It's ok, but the 3200mAh battery barely lasts a day.
Recently been torn on whether to get a 10T Lite 5G for ~£180 in their sale, but I have also have a load of bike bits I want/need, too big a wishlist and not enough disposable income!
I've got one. An MI 9 Lite
It's ok. There are adverts but I don't notice them in normal usage. They are certainly no more intrusive than any you find on common apps.
Battery life is good. Comfortably get a day out of mine.
The UI took some getting used to. It's different from other android platforms but works. It took me a while to get my head round some of the menu options and find things when I wanted it set up in a specific way.
My wife got a Pixel 3a shortly after I got mine. That might have been a better option but it was 300 not 200 ish pounds.
I've had no issues with my Xiaomi phones, also check out the Poco X3 and M3 as Poco was a sub brand of Xiaomi but is now a standalone spinoff, though still uses the same OS and miui (for now at least).
Motorola G's will offer an experience much closer to "stock" android with very few UI mods and very little bloatware. There are some good deals on G9 play, Vodafone are doing it for £130 including a £10 top-up and after a month they'll unlock it free for any network.
I've had a Mi A2 for 15 months, my wife has the Mi A2 Lite (rebadged Redmi) for 2 years.
No complaints from either of us. Good phones, Android One updates every month.etc.
I'm on a Mi 9 SE, before that I was on a Mi 5.
Pretty happy with them, although I'll probably look elsewhere for my next phone, as they seem to have stopped doing phones for people with normal sized hands.
I use Nova launcher for a more stock Android experience.
i brought an 8pro a month ago.been superb and fast delivery from xiami uk.
I've got a mi 9t, had it for over a year and really happy with it. I had a mi5 before it.
I don't get any ads and the system to use is, I think, pretty close to stock Android. Swipe up from the bottom to open the app 'drawer' and there's all my apps in alphabetical order, tap one and the app opens. Notifications show at the top, swipe down to see more detail, swipe down again to access the quick menu for turning things like Bluetooth, WiFi, torch etc on and off. The settings menu is probably a bit different to standard Android but it's all in sensible places, it's not as if you have to learn mandarin to set a ring tone!
Cheers guys. All sounds pretty positive. Someone mentioned the poco x3, it's that one I was looking at. Also one of the redmi 9 versions. Not sure how confident I'd be at removing bloatware, can it just be pushed to one side, so to speak, and left there?
I shall be selling my mi A2 lite if anyone wants one.
V happy with my mi 8, great value
I run a note 8T and im very happy with it, got it in the sale @ £129 ... good battery , reasonably good camera and very pretty in blue
I'll be buying the wife a Mi 10 lite or poco in the next few weeks as her moto one is dying on its ass !
I like my mi10t lite. Other half has a pocophone F1 which is still performing well.
Ads aren't intrusive. Updates are up to date.
Size of the mi10t lite isn't an issue for me. It fits in my pocket and the larger screen is good.
It's a five minute job to turn the ads off. I have mii 9 se.
I've an older Mi8 which is coming up for end of contract, the battery loses charge quickly, but does recharge very fast. I quite like the iPhone style way of displaying the apps, and don't get any ads.
The only thing to watch out for is no waterproofing.
Poco X3 here. It's amazing for the money. Came from vanilla Android with a Moto Z2 Force (former flagship phone so quicker processor). It's not as quick as the Moto but no issues for my use. I'm used to the big screen and the Moto Z feels tiny now. The battery is immense (just over 5000mAh) and easily lasts all day even with the heaviest use. The Mui took a tiny bit of getting used to but I'm fine with it now. I've only noticed adverts when downloading new apps. I bought my eldest a Redmi 8 a while ago and was hugely impressed for the money, which got me looking.
I think Xiaomi are cracking vfm, the biggest issue is that the sheer number of models is confusing AF with loads of overlaps, and you can almost guarantee whatever you get will be cheaper next month or there will be a slightly better model released imminently. Look at HotUKdeals for... Well the name is self explanatory. I bought both phones direct from Xiaomi, delivery was a couple of days. Amazon also sell them. I paid £208 for a 128gb Poco X3, some free bundled Airpod copies and a Mi Band 5 (which was a £10 add on). Bargain.
Got the redmi note 9 pro 128gb, you get a few ads in some of the built in apps, which if you use any of them you can turn off in the settings, but otherwise, it's just like any other android phone. The settings could be a bit easier to nagivate but you've got a search function which works for whatever you are looking for.
Overall, best phone I've had, would recommend. Battery is tremendous, 5000mah, and 33w charging means from the plug it charges in an hour and lasts for yonks. don't think you'll get much better in a 240 quid phone.
I've got their Mi Max 3 which wasn't available in UK or possibly also EU. I got the EU rom version or whatever, purchased from China or Hong Kong or an EU Warehouse. It's been fine, no issues. If there have been any ads it must not have been a big intrusion because i genuinely can't recall that being a thing and I've certainly had it more than 12 months now.
Redmi Note 9 Pro here, 6/128.
Paid £185 for it last September.
Battery lasts for ages, it's quick enough, fast charging, comes with screen protector fitted and a case in the box.
Settings are c different to stock Android but you can find what you need to.
Ads can appear if using the miui apps but easy to turn off.
Previously had a Redmi Note 4 from 2017. My partner's using that and it's still going strong.
Mi A2 user here. No ads to speak of - just a good android phone with regular updates &, 18 months later, a battery that doesn't as long as it could or should (under a day).
Was a bargain compared to other phones at the time & much better than the Moto it replaced.
I'll definitely consider Xiaomi again
Pocofone F1 for two years, battery just starting to fall away a little, never seen ads. easy to use, good features when browsing etc
Also an F1 user here for a couple of years. It's a great phone I've been really happy with especially for the money. Battery will go for a couple of days. Charges fast. Keep looking at new shiny but the spec of this phone is very hard to beat beyond having a flashier screen and I don't really want to size up.
Well, I've gone and bought a Poco x3 nfc. Thanks for the help everyone.
I have a MI9, had it for a year or so. Can't fault it. Good price, build quality is good. Miui can be mostly controlled with another launcher installed over the top so it feels like stock android.
Yeehaa, typing this on my new phone. Early days yet but very impressed so far. Need a few days to play about with it and set it up as I want it, but if this is what cheap Chinese phones are all about, I can't see me going back to mainstream brands again.
The wifes Redmi note 9 came today, 4gb/128gb version ... total price £119 !!!! ... all setup and running 🙂 .. wifes loves the camera etc, took some quite reasonable star shots with it tonight using a tripod .... happy wife etc
Mi 10 Lite here. Mi 9 Lite before this.
Can't fault either and certainly won't pay iPhone prices again.
My 10 Lite was £700 less than the last iPhone I bought. The quality of Xiaomi has converted me from buying a phone on a device contract to just buying it outright and being done with it. No regrets whatsoever.
I've got a Mi A2. It's fantastic and the camera is very good. Pure Android so no skin
Have to use iPhones for work. Absolute rubbish in comparison
They have some quirks that might kill apps doing things in the background and stop push notifications. Generally, just a case of finding the right settings.
