Update to 10.11.1 wasn't straightforward for us, involving lots of safe mode restarts and frozen screens, on a brand new retina imac.
Did the new upgrade work OK for anyone ?
Thanks.
Working fine for me
Yes, and everything works fine.
Yup, ages ago. All OK
Yes and all fine, I do mine as soon as the relase comes out. Mac Mini 2009 and wife's MBP 2012
OP I would be tempted to take that machine back to Apple. It does not sound right at all. Get everything backed up.
Thanks, all.
All backed up, fingers crossed...
Haven't tried this, but the last 2 updates were as you experienced on retina MacBook Pro - restarts and safe-mode needed. A good reminder to back up before you start!
yes, don't recall having any problems on any OS X updates in recent times. 2012 rMBP.
The update occurred without a problem but it slowed mine down a bit for a few days - lots of hanging wth the spinning beach ball, but it has since returned to usual performance, so no issues.
2014 rMBP updated when it came out no problems at all.
As before, it ends up with a black screen with an outline mouse pointer which moves with the bluetooth mouse, but nothing from the keyboard (cmd L does nothing).
However, after a manual ordinary restart it's back up, which was a lot better than last time !
Fine here, no issues. 2015 retina MBP.
No and rather annoyingly the CAD software I use (2013 issue) will not work with the new OS so I can't update. 2 years isn't very long is it?
touch wood but both my 2013 iMac and 2011 macbook have always upgraded without issue
I bloody wish i could stop Microsoft nagging me to move from Win7 to Win10 on my bootcamp partition though - the macbook doesn't support it.......
waiting for 10.11.3!
i use a lot of music software and not all of it was compatible with el capitan straight off the bat. i figure i can wait a couple more months if it's gonna make the transition a bit smoother. have found yosemite buggy enough as it is without jumping into the world of early adopting...

Windows 10 is now supported on Bootcamp but make sure you download the latest drivers from Apple first. I've been running it on both a MacBook Air and Pro 15 Retina.
Last time I looked it was supported on MacBooks newer than mine only.
Did it last night. Piece of Charlie Cheesecake, just like all the earlier updates. Mid 2012 MBP here.
yes, just checked - my early2011 13" macbook pro runs el Cap really well (8GB and an SSD) but is too old to run win10 according to Apples page.
10.11.2 was a bit of a shaky update for me (2011 iMac) for the first time.
Seemed to hang during the update and I'm sure it made a odd beep during as well, but I left it to it and was fine eventually.
Also seemed a little slow for the first day but has been great since.
Yes I updated mine a while ago (to 10.11) and rolled back. Emails all went to pot so I went back to what I knew best. Just updated (yesterday) to 10.11.2 and its all working as it should.
The newer laptop definitely chimed a few times, which was disturbing. The 2009 MBP went fine...
running 10.11.2 on both 2014 MBP and mac mini - both went without a hitch
