Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan. How long did it take, and what was the level of fitness of the group?

I haven’t but it’s something I’ve thought about but not looked into properly.
Cadair is the only one I’ve never done.

Presume it’s like the National as far as Snowdon is concerned which is fairly easy.
As for Pen y Fan if it take the route up from the Storey Arms then thats also a doddle (fatigue notwithstanding of course) If coming at it from the other side and going up Jacobs Ladder then that’s a bit more of a killer especially if it’s the last summit and tired legs are involved.

I know not really useful just sharing what I know and also bumping as interested myself.
Imagine like the National though it’s the driving that’s the killer if self supported.

Over 20 years ago. We had two teams of 6 one a year ahead of the other in terms of time on the hill. The first team went way quick on Snowdon, we were waiting 90 mins for the second team. Cadair was murder, we were cramping after having 12 of us in a 14 seat minibus. Stupidly did the left side up pen y fan. I can’t remember when we finished, we set off up snowdon at 5 am. Everyone fit and used to doing 10 -14 hour stints carrying full rucksacks with tents and cooking gear - still found it a challenge, mostly due to being wedged in a minibus between peaks for yonks. Well worth it though, Especially with the right group. Luckily had two drivers who also brewed us flasks of coffee ready for when we got down from Pen Y Fan

Or try the Welsh 3000s instead. A proper walking challenge, no driving in between.

10 years ago did Welsh 15 peaks in 24 hours, with food support in between. one guy was close to collapse at the end. Done, but never ever again thanks. Yorkshire Dales 3 peaks done a few times. faster each time. I'm up for sub 7.5 hrs as this years challenge as it's achievable, but any big welsh challenge never again thanks lol. Just go for it molgrips, just requires the obvious common sense preparation and all that, lots of big hill walks in the weeks and months before invaluable, go running up hills from home etc. going there before as part of your prep and reccy key sections of the route will make a massive difference unless you're certain it's all very straightforward navigation.

This. Never really understood these 'challenges' that involve not very challenging activity and quite a lot of driving.

The obvious common sense prep is sitting in a car or minibus... 🙂

Welsh 3000s is a proper adventure/challenge. No driving involved apart from getting to start or end. Food/bag/water drops would help a lot

+1 Welsh 3000s do it over a weekend if the 24 hours is too much, plenty of youth hostels on the route. All that driving doesn't really fit with big mountain out in the wilds challenges imo
