I've just got back from a fantastic trip to Morzine with a group of mates. I can't wait to go back, but it's not fair on my lovely wife if I naff off to the Alps without her every year (although she says she doesn't mind)

Has anyone else taken a non-riding other half to the alps and if so what did they do all day while you were riding? Is it worth doing? Thanks.

Walking, Paragliding, Golfing, beautiful towns like Annecy for shopping, etc etc .

There's lots to do

Best if she has a car and a friend.

As Thegman67 said if she says she doesn't mind then I wouldn't go. Personally I think it might be worse going away and entertaining myself all day whilst you are out riding your bike, think i'd rather be at home. But otherwise there is lots to do locally but on your own!? Just go away on your own and enjoy the freedom, there will be so many other blokes on here jealous as hell! Take advantage.

My wife quite likes having a week to herself!

I took the missus to the alps for 3 days a few years back. We left our apartment which was high on the slopes and I tore off down the slope. I looked back a few 100 mtrs to see and here her sobbing at the top of the slope 😳
I was very apologetic and walked her down the steep bit, guided her onto the flatter stuff and gave her some advice. She rather enjoyed it after that, especially when I took a tumble trying to show off to her lol! We went rafting and parcour'ing on our other days though. I dont think she would have been happy for a week

The alps is chock full of touristy stuff that's not biking:

Walking
Lakeside strolls
Spa hotels
Nice restaurants
Towns (with associated amenities)
Museums
Art galleries
Courses for painting, or whatever you want
Craft shops/fairs

Loads of stuff. It's like the Lakes or North Wales - not just about the outdoor pursuits.

You might have to choose where you go carefully. What does she like? Sailing? Eating? Swimming? Etc.

She might not mind if you go alone, but she might really enjoy a trip herself, and the fact that you want to do something nice for her! If she doesnt' mind being away from you but doesn't want to go to the Alps, you could plan (together) something else nice for her to do elsewhere. Got any distant relatives, that kind of thing?

Couple of years back took the whole family, stayed at a place with a nice pool, bar and restaurant - that kept them ammused when I went on the bike!

Maybe she genuinely doesn't mind - it doesn't bother me too much when my bloke goes off to Fort William for a week. Let's face it, how much fun will it be for her if she does come & meets up with you all in the evening when you're goining on about the day's ride (which you will. And you'll discuss hubs, sprokets, fixies, disc brakes... great chat for a non-biker)?

when i have been out to Verbier with the SO, i have ridden and she has used the swimming pool, walked, read, etc. Just a case of making sure i am not riding all the time and do spend some of the holiday with her.
