I realise that it's a bit early but I have a vague recollection that some folks here might have stayed at one of the 'Family Ski' brand chalets in Reberty. Anyone got any views on them or suggestions of other family friendly organisations. This stuff always gets booked up waaaaaay too far in advance
In true STW style, no but have stayed with Ski Famille in Les Gets and with small kids it was great, albeit expensive.
Excellent, that's what I was looking for. Do you remember if it was mainly smaller children or teens as well? From Reberty it seemed to be mainly smaller children but I didn't know if that was what they were aiming for
Edit:and was it mainly Francophone or a mix as well?
Hi leffeboy, Stoner alerted me to this one. We’ve been to Reberty three times, twice with Family Ski and once with Ski Famille. I’m a bit busy bashing timber about at the minute but will reply later in more detail when I’m sat at desktop doing invoicing/estimates.
Any questions in particular you had? Fire away and I’ll do my best to answer them later.
EDIT: or drop I an electronic mail if you’d prefer.
I was in Reberty a few years ago at a different chalet when I met another STW'er (Andy - I can't remember his name on here). He had mentioned that someone else had been there the week before and I think now it was probably you
Anyway, I normally go to the same chalet with my daughter (16) and a couple of other families from Brussels but for the last couple of years they have been coming so I'm really hunting for other chalets that are likely to have teenagers around. I'd seen the Family Ski and Ski Famille chalets next to where we were and wondered what they were like. So do they try and entertain the youngsters in the evenings, get people together to ski etc. What's it like as a place to stay in? Are they all Brits or is it a mix? Got a preference between the two outfits?
I realise it changes from year to year as that has been our experience but all info. is good
Thanks
Do you need to stay in a particular location? Are you specifically looking for a chalet? If you want a reasonable value week away with plenty for youngsters to do, you could consider the UCPA "family" weeks where kids under 18 are allowed

Back again...
So do they try and entertain the youngsters in the evenings
No, once they hand the kids over from day-care, they’re your responsibility from there until they go to bed. We went outside holiday (English schools) times with a pre-schooler so it was mostly toddlers/3-4 year old and then a few older ones, maybe up to 10 with the parents making the usual excuses about taking them out of school. 😀
I’d imagine that during Christmas/NY, half-term and Easter, there would be older kids there but I’d never pay their prices for those periods. Both SF and FS are eye-wateringly expensive for those weeks.
They’re both well run outfits and there’s very little between them to be honest. They’re very similar in price as they’d have to be seeing as, say, in Reberty, they’re all neighbouring chalets. If I had older kids that were able to entertain themselves with iPads etc in the evenings, I would probably not use them. It very much depends on how old your kids are and how much day-care they need. For wraparound morning till afternoon care where you could drop the little ones off and not have to worry till you’d had your day’s skiing, it was excellent.
Food was far more average than advertised. A few evenings when I saw the kids doing the prep and cooking from laminated sheets, I felt like telling the cook to relax and I’d do it. But that’s just me being a fussy muppet and expecting the food to be as good as they’d promised. Which, to be honest, it wasn’t. The chalets are also nowhere bear as well appointed as their brochures and websites make out. I’d say they were of the standard of a **/*** hotel.
Out of the school holiday times, they’re always doing last-minute deals - at least they were the season just gone judging from the amount of emails I was getting.
I assume you know Reberty well then? The village and convenience of the location made up for a few of the shortcomings of FS and SF for us.
It’ll be all Brits there (including staff) - we didn’t come across any other nationalities, in the three years we went.
Would I use them again? Possibly out of season on a “deal” but at full brochure price, not a chance.
What’s the age mix and make-up of your group?
Ah fantastic - that was exactly the sort of info. I was looking for, thank you. Whenever I've seen them it has always looked like pre-teens and toddlers there rather than full teenagers. It's only my daughter who is just fine entertaining herself but it's more fun if there are some things to get folks together. Price is indeed horrible but the rest of the family aren't interested in going so it's bearable, just. The info. on the chalet level is also perfect - thanks. I was tempted to take a nose inside last time I was there just to check it out but thought that might be a bit cheeky. Food is a bit of an issue. If I'm paying a lot then I would like something a bit above average. Doesn't need to be fancy, just not something my daughter might produce :). Serving appetisers on a slate doesn't make it fancy, just faffy.
Age and makeup is just me and my daughter who is 16.
Sounds like it is unlikely to be much better that where I am at the moment so no real need to jump unless there is no space in my usual spot. I'll ask around here to see if any of the folks who used to go are ready to go back but they are all much larger groups so the cost is getting prohibitive. Reberty is really not bad and from Brussels there is a direct train to Moutiers and then a bus so it's super easy to get to
Thanks again for the info., it was perfect. STW rocks
I've not got a 16 year old daughter so can't comment with any authority but in true STW fashion... I reckon the UCPA weeks would be a good shout.
I've used EspritSki in the past for a toddler and would use again, but very much geared up to kids younger than 16. I stayed at UCPA a couple of years ago with a mate and very sociable (although we did the "no instruction" option) - got talking to lots of folk in the evenings, so if they do a younger folks week it could work nicely. Lots of communal area / games areas etc and depending on how sociable your daughter is, I'm sure she'd easily find plenty of like mended youngsters to drink pernod with in the corner somewhere 😉
I've never stayed at the UCPA myself but I've travelled down on the train to Argentiere with a couple who were going to stay at the UCPA and they really rated it for exactly the reasons you give. In fact some of the Brussels communes seem to run trips down there so I might see if there are any of those as that could be fun. There used to be a hotel in Argentiere that was a bit like that (the Belvedere i think) where a random bunch of people would get together in the evenings and that was cheap and fun
Great ideas
Agree for that mix UCPA would work. And wouldnt get any benefit from ski famille etc
