If so where was best? eBay? Farcebook marketplace? We buy any car?

It's my elderly FIL's Peugeot estate, probably not worth more than £750 but it's mint. . Facebook seems to be full of scammers, and I'm not sure what huge fees eBay would take.

Anyone had any success post COVID prices?

Not We Buy Any Car unless you want a bottom possible price. Having said that, they are reasonably polite while they rob you unlike some of the Facebook market place types apparently

I am also interested as I need to shift a £3,000 Nissan Leaf

Yes, we did last week. 2012 Ibiza Estate with 130k on clock.
Gumtree got more interest than Facebook & FB groups. Didn't bother with Auto trader or similar.
Priced £1k less than a dealer, £500 less than many others as it had some issues, but got £2.4k private compared to WBAC £1k offer.

@monkeysfeet

That'll likely appeal to a fair few people on this forum mate. Estate for bike carrying, bangernomics etc etc etc.👍

Have you thought of giving a stealth advert on STW a try?

I used Gumtree too, pretty successful tbh. Surprised there wasn't any time wasters but all was good

Sold a friend's £2500 107 last week. Honest description and plenty of photos.

The first 7 people who contacted me were scammers who immediately asked about it being HPI clear - I had to Google but it's where they ask you to goto a fake site and obtain an HPI for them.
Check the potential buyers profile and if not 100% on what you see block them.

Had 3 dealers who were trying to low ball me.
First 'normal' person to contact me came a few days later to view and buy and was lovely.

I also have sister-in-law's-ex wife's mega mileage Toyota IQ to sell, I think this one is going to be an interesting sale.

I sold on Facebook Marketplace- £2k car, no messing around. I put it up Saturday night, agreed a price about 30 mins later, they collected next morning (agreed a price 10% below asking). If you are in Yorkshire I’ll happily share their contact details (he was a dealer).

I tried to sell a Holden cruze (prob a Chevrolet something or other in the uk) a year ago. I gave up in the end due to all the time wasters as they did my absolute head in. It’s still sat on the drive…..

2013 Renault Megane estate, sold a week ago via FB. Advertised at £1200, I was going to accept £1000. Within 10 mins of the ad I had offers of £500 and £600. Got quite a few more offers of a similar level, then one guy messaged me, he’d just had his car written off, could I wait a week if he gave me a deposit, and he’d pay £1k. Took him up on it, and he paid £100 same day, 5 days he came round with the rest (actually bank transfer).

So I’d say try FB, but make it clear in the ad what you want, and you wont take part ex’s etc, and its cash or bank transfer only, that shoudl weed out some of the chancers, others who try it on, just block them, and hopefully there will be at least one genuine person who wants it.

I had luck on Facebook, got rid of my 09 ford galaxy with 180k. Priced to sell (1k) and it was gone within 24hrs. Just filter the messages to people who can spell and string a sentence together, avoid anyone wanting to swap. Cash / bank transfer on collection and do the v5 transfer on line as soon as cash hits your bank.

Hmmm. Facebook might be the best option then. @ duncancallum I've PM'd you.

I'm off to give it a wash and get some pics this morning, so I'll stick it on here too

Facebook Marketplace - sold my 175k mile 2007 Avensis Estate for £1k. A guy came across from about an hours drive away on the bus to view / buy it. Some spamming and nonesense but not too bad. For a cheap car you’re likely looking at local buyers and they will need to come in person to see it so while attempted scammers might be annoying you’re unlikely to actually fall for anything.

Facebook for the last sub £500 rotter. But be careful, some one contacted us at half 8 in the evening, half hour away. He eventually turned up at 11, with just a pair of tracksuit bottoms on. And a heavy aroma of weed.

Seemed a nice enough guy, happily counted out the cash and actually gave me a genuine name and address for the paper work even after I asked if I should put Mickey mouse.

And drove off into the fen. Happy as larry

Well, I've listed it on Facebook this afternoon and got a chap coming to view all the way from Norfolk on Monday. Seems a genuine chap, as his old Peugeot (same model) has recently given up.
