Looking for a resort accessible by train and taxi if required, good for families, reasonable cost but good skiing.
This is currently top of a short list as I sit watching piste bashers in puy st Vincent

Vaujany links into Alpe d'Huez so plenty of skiing, though what current conditions are like is another matter.
Haute Maurienne worth looking at, via Modane

Ah right. Then definitely look at Val Cenis, Valfrejus and Galibier-Thabor (Valloire and Valmeinier, as was) in the Maurienne
Sainte Foy Tarentaise is an excellent family resort, but is not cheap
