I was never a Jeremy Kyle fan, I had seen the show on TV occasionally but I've just watched the CH4 documentary about it. I know there were often jokes about the type of people on the show but the degree of exploitation and treatment of the guests, many with mental health issues is shocking.

I'm glad it's cancelled but it's a shameful state of society that we let it go on for so long. You could blame the viewers for this, but many (including my wife, who has also mental health issues) watched it as it helped them feel better about their own lives. The executives at itv, and Mr Kyle should be ashamed of themselves, and I hope programmes of this type are not produced again.

Absolutely. Always hated that kind of thing, Bear-baiting type poverty exploitation and demonization of the (generally) white working/underclass for want of better terms. Shameful.

I agree, horrible show on many levels that had the audacity to market itself as helping people to resolve issues they had.

Poverty Porn was (is?) hugely popular on CH5 too, not sure of it still is but it leaves a really bad taste in the mouth.

Watched it last night (the first one anyway) - was genuinely shocked at how appallingly the individual production staff behaved, and how little contrition they showed, even when describing their own appalling behavior. The cameraman was the only one who really seemed genuinely sorry for his part in the whole thing - the others still seemed pleased with themselves.

The other thing I found shocking was ITVs response..... just bare-faced lies. Again, no contrition at all - just bare faced lies about mental health vetting/support, high standards etc.

I've never watched the show, seeing the clips of Kyle absolutely tearing into people made me feel physically sick, what a detestable excuse for a human being. Whether he is actually either that loathsome IRL, or just putting it on for the cameras, makes him worse than any of the people he's attacking. What utter human garbage.

Jesser is trying to take legal action against C4. Truly horrible person. Deserves to never work in media again.

I didn't get that really, I thought the two ladies and the bloke being interviewed were angry with the way they were put in those positions at young ages where they didn't know how the system worked and forced to work long hours under lots of stress and basically made to think that their career was on the line unless they got people on the show. Also thought they were genuinley upset the lady producer comitted suicide.

The shows makers and the so called 'doctor' came across as ****s who didn't give a shit in that hearing. JK him self is just a cowerdly little shit. And ITV's response was pathetic.

Bloody awful show and the way they treated people was shocking.

I think that the fact the staff shown were represented by actors made it difficult to assess how sorry (or not) they were, but as above it seemed they were inadequately trained to deal with any serious issues and under immense pressure to do the job or they would be sacked.

If the figures are correct and out of 200 staff only 4 would go on the show, and didn't want to be identified this says a lot about the work culture at itv and in the media, they were all scared of losing jobs and worried that by speaking out will jeopardize any future work in that industry

Never watched it as have no interest in car-crash tv...I suspect this thing on Channel 5 would also be car-crash tv but with an attempt at showing how it was behind-the-scenes...easy tv to make and a lot of the general public seem to lap it up - clearly happy to see there are people worse off them themselves...just not appealing in any way for me.

Always saw it as a sort of ‘Bumfights’ for the UK market. Dehumanising and cynically exploitative on the afternoon TV scale.

I saw it when visiting family. I turned on the TV and there it was, by the time I'd found the remote it had got my attention.

Intially I thought it was like a German programme where actors play the squabbling parties but these people didn't seem to be acting and it didn't seem scripted. I got into the show and thought about some of the kids I knew at school, yes people like this exist but what the hell were they doing on daytime TV unfiltered.

When my hosts realised what I was watching they laughed, and explained. No-one could explain how they recuited these people or how much they were being paid to make fools of themselves exposing their car crash relationships to all.

So yes, a dreadful show exploiting useful idiots. But is Channel 4's shaming of Kyle and his show any better? And which channel will shame channel 4 if Kyle or his collaborators commit suicide?

Yes... it is.

Sums it up for me. Best put in Room 101.

I worked with someone who knew some one who was going on it because they pay £70 for the DNA test.

Glad it got cancelled.

But is Channel 4’s shaming of Kyle and his show any better?

How are the two things in any way comparable?

Cor blimey; I was in the car on Tuesday and tuned in to Talk Radio for a larf as the Hawk was sitting in for Craig Charles. Kyle was one of the hosts.
It's like catnip for selfish short-sighted stupid people. The only thing I heard that I agreed with was a time check.

Tried to watch it but it just reminded me how pitiful the whole thing is and was. All of these kinds of shows like Jerry Springer etc.

Gave up. Horrible people.
