As above, they get the best reviews on my car (ford focus st3) and it seems nothing is as good as them for the same price (£150-£160 per tyre fitted in size 235/35/19)

Have a set on the front which have been great, rear tyres now need replacing so been hunting around and nowhere seems to be able to get any

Blackcicrles have postponed 3 bookings so far and have given me a £15 refund as a goodwill gesture, now booked in again with them for next week but im guessing that will be cancelled to

I had them on a Fiesta ST limited edition thing. Awesome tyres when it was warm and dry, probably the best ive ever had.

A little bit too loose in the wet for my liking. When I had the car it seemed like the cold and greasy part of winter lasted about 8 months and they weren't great. I'd have switched to the regular Pilot Sports if I kept the car long enough.

I was tempted by them for my car in 245/35/19 but chose Hankook Ventus S1 EVO3 K127 instead as they were significantly cheaper yet still review well. That's on a 400bhp RWD car and they do remarkably well. Plenty of owners of the same car do, however, use the MPS4s and rate them highly.

I use CrossClimates on my Focus ST. They replaced regular Pilot Sports. Much better traction in the wet and less torque steer and tramlining.

But then I live in Glasgow.

Have the 4S on my Mercedes C63S, run it year round and they are much better in the cold / wet than the pilot super sports they replaced.

Only real complaint is they aquaplane badly but that's probably the width of tyre.

I think I responded to the question wrongly. I had the super sports on the Fiesta.

Just realised the 4S is a different tyre. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

We've got the Cross Climate's on a remapped Yeti and I can well imagine they're a perfect tyre north of the border. The bloke we bought it from used to commute to Aberdeen.

Cheers for the replies

Car only does 4k a year and spends little time in the rain and the only way i could live further down south would be if i hopped on the ferry to the I.O.W so the weather palys little to no bearing on tyre choice for me

Looks like ill have to wait till Blackcircles can actually get hold of some!

I run them on my Tesla M3P and they’re very good. The amount of stick they put up with is impressive, 2 tonne car, thick end of 500bhp and all the torques available from 0rpm. If you boot it in the wet from a standing start it won’t spin.. but I think there are some clever lines of code to thank for that too! The rears on mine were toast after 13k miles mins, but I think thats an alignment issue as it was inside shoulder on both (badly).

Agree with what @baser said too re. Pilot super sports, I had them on an M135i and whilst great in the dry were compromised in the wet. 4S feels like a better all rounder.

Not sure 4S existed when I had my 4motion Golf, used to run Pilot 2s and the grip level was just incredible in corners.

I track mine weekends on a I30N and get about 5-7k a set. Great tyres on a hatch. Traction in most conditions. [img] [/img]

I have them on an Audi RS3 (same size as you’re looking to get) Very good in all weather and temperatures even down to icy/zero degree conditions - which we get a lot of where I live.

They’re fantastic in warm conditions - Just put mine back on after using other wheels with Pirelli P Zeros for a few months and the Michelins are noticeably better.

Deffo recommend.

I have them in the 19" size on my ST3 estate. They were on the car whan I bought it 6 - 8 months & 9K miles ago and had no issues with them at all. Just paid out to replace one of the rears due to a non-repairable puncture.

I have pss on the front ,and the ps4 on the rear, pss have good turn in response, PS4 good traction when booting it

Good to know Julian’s. I have Pilot Supersports on mine* coming near to the wear indicator, and was considering a PS4. I’ve never had issues with the Supersport.

*only a 320d though…

Also, michelin have just released the pilot sport 5 so that could be another option, although reviews are thin on the ground due to their newness.

Worth watching the video again, iirc it was slight less than the PS4. I might have dreamed that.

Edit: a little bit boring for sporty people.

Echo this as my experience on an F80 M3 - great tyre in the dry and warm and I don’t generally push them in the wet with 450bhp RWD

*Head-ups, I'm going to look like a troll but I've tried to phrase it best I can*

I just don't understand the whole 'PS4's are amazeballs' (or whatever tyre).

Unless you're tracking your car, what difference does anything other than 'long lasting' and 'won't throw you into ditch in the wet/cold' matter for driving on public roads?

Promise I'm not trying to be dick, but I've never had a nice drive in the Dales of wherever and though "damn, these tyres are really letting me down" or planted the anchors on and the car's ABS/whatever hasn't done all the work.

Just don't get it, but I think I'm alone!

I've got them (PS4S) on my RS5, as that's what everyone raved about

Tremendous grip in the dry and I can do 0-60 in 4.5s in the wet with no wheel spin. They do need to be warmed up to get the best grip in the wet, but don't all tyres...

@bearnecessities - better tyres mean the abs won't need to come on as easily in an emergency situation. The limits of grip are far higher than regular tyres and while you may not use it that often it is always there for when it is needed. There is also the issue of 'feel' that a lot of people buy cars for. Poor tyres for a particular car can ruin it, even on a daily driver. I certainly prioritise grip and feel on my car and it only has 59bhp! Different people have different priorities.

Think I had these on my Tesla Model S.

They worked OK. No slippage on reasonable roads with acceleration or braking. Only problem I had was heavy rain with standing water where they don’t do well - but then what general/summer tyre does?

Lasted about 25,000 miles. Replaced with the same though was tempted by Primacy.

CostCo and BlackCircles often have deals on them.

was tempted by Primacy.

Can I ask why? I’ve been looking at the primacy as a cheaper option. My use is “sales rep” in the main so nothing exciting, but I have it in my head that the more grooves in the Primacy would be better on the occasional foray onto a wet grassy field for MTB event parking, bearing in mind my car is RWD with 255’s.

What I really want is the MPS All Season 4, but they are like hens teeth in the sizes I want.

Nothing really constructive to add other than I’ve used ‘normal’ and sports tyres by accident on fast rwd cars

Kind of obvious but not feedback

‘Normal’ tyres were quieter, improved the ride, were more predictive when the back end let go, after it had let go though no real linear feedback

‘Sports’ better turn in, more feel, more predictive when sliding (but more edgy), less stability control lights flashing

You have really got to have a car where the chassis will translate that difference for it to be worth it IMO.

The Ps4 seem to have a bit more flex and compliance in the sidewalls compared to PSS , which when used on the rear seems to translate to the traction control light coming on less when you boot it compared to using pss on the rear, however that same flex and give translates to a bit of vagueness in the steering and a less instantaneous turn in when used on the front wheels , so thats why I have ps4 on the rear and PSS on the front.

Note there is a Pilot Sport 4 and a Pilot Sport 4S.

The 4S is a vastly different and better tyre than the 4 which is still a good tyre.

The 4S is just as good as the 4 if not better in the everyday stuff, comfort, road noise, wet and cold performance but also brings good sports and track performance again equal or better than the Super Sport.

If you can afford it the PS4S is the tyre to get when choosing between PS4, SS and PS4S.

It makes a fantastic sporty tyre for a daily driver. Other offerings from Continental or Goodyear have a more sportier feel and better turn in but they loose out on the everyday manners making the PS4S still the best premium high performance tyre for everyday use.

I’ve not read much about the PS5 yet but from what I understand it’s not a replacement for the PS4S.

I believe its a revision of the PS4 to gain longer wear life and also includes very nice to look at sidewall graphics.

Cheers for all the replies

As i said im already running the PS4S on the front, no better tyre out there for the price for my car, need to replace the rears but Black circles seem to be struggling to find any PS4S tyres as they have cancelled 3 appointments so far

Personally I care about driving, so see reluctantjumper's answer. That I'm not going to be deliberately pushing the limits like I do with bike tyres doesn't change my purchasing mindset much.

Even for people who don't care about driving, take the wet braking distance from 50mph in this recent group test.

Of the tyres a typical uninformed person may buy (so exclude the absolute crap), the best (Continental Premium Contact) stops in 29.6m, while the worst (Nankang Eco 2 Plus) takes 37.9. There was an older test somewhere which said that at the point where the best tyre had stopped, the worst tyre was still travelling at 20something mph.

I have the standard pilot sport 4 (not the S) on 2 cars (a fat 240bhp estate and an mx5), they're bloody awesome tbh. Absolute shite in the snow mind. I might try the S next time but tbf the standard PS4 is so damn good I've not really felt it lacking.

@Kryton57 better wet weather performance was my thinking too. Not sure about wet/muddy fields. My guess is that anything but an all seasons/winter tyre would be slithery.

Sports were cheaper on offer so got them.

The euro Tesla model 3 comes with a set of PS4’s (none S).

Not bad boots for a hippy eco wagon 🙂
