Does anyone remember the brand technics in the 90s (not the turntable brand)

They made sweaters and there was always a large embroidered b-boy character on the front

Even a penguin with headphones on

I can't find anything on the web about them

But I remember a few people had them and there were so cool

I think they also made bomber jackets too (with the characters on the back)

Looking back the characters were obviously inspired by graffiti culture (characters put up next to graff pieces)

I remember them, but assumed the clothing was related / part of the turntable company.

I thought they were to do with the decks?

See kenwood jackets and jackets with holographics

Immediately thought of naf naf or spliffy jeans. Are you sure it wasn't eclipse?

Wasn't Technic's just the posh division of Panasonic? They made all aspects of Japanese HiFi kit. It just so happened that they made turntables with pitch control and a strong direct magnet drive for pitch stability that could be used for beat mixing.
Also, I'm pretty sure the clothing was just promotional kit as they used to sponsor the world DJ mixing championships.

I remember them, also Destroy with the sideways anarchy symbol and lots of those dazed and confused shirts.

FWIW I thought those Technics jackets were bloody awful, and that’s coming from somebody who’s owned a pair of 1210s since the 90s!
Aha

Don't forget those "NASA" jackets, which I don't think were official space agency merchandise.

This rings a bell, I think you are correct - for the official versions anyway.

On the subject of 90s brands, who remembers Soviet?

I had a sweatshirt and a pair of jeans, a combo that cost about £120 in 1990.

I always used to chuckle about the cool kids wearing logo’s for an electronic organ company

I think they were slightly before the likes of eclipse. Also much more niche and about 50quid a sweater.

Basically grey sweaters with a embroidered character on the front and the word technics underneath.

You are correct there was a lot of technics (turntable) clothing around...but this was different...although the words technics was in the same or a similar font

I have Fairlight and KORG tees!

Which organ brand are you referring to?

I don't remember those Technics sweaters at all, but I had an Eclipse bomber jacket, and desperately wanted a Dready hoody and some Eclipse jeans with the logo embroided on the toolbelt.

Zara is currently selling Technics branded sweaters as per the 90s cause 90s fashion is so hot right low.

My wife still has her Dready hoody in theme wardrobe.

Ahhh, memories.

Destroy, John Richmond already mentioned, I have one of the early Destroy denim jackets still with the bleached destroy lettering down the sleeves.

Also Michiko Koshino...

And some Patrick Cox loafers to top the look!

oh god, you were my mortal enemy

in 1998 I could usually be seen wearing an Orange (the bike company) fleece sweater, which was also orange in colour, approximately 27 sizes too large for me, and really quite rave. Also, baggy combats and Vans. I could usually be found down the front at a nearby acid techno night

I never bought any of their jeans, put off by stories that Chernobyl fallout.

Ha ha. My brother used to be a right brand whore & had all this stuff. God-awful looking Fila & Kicker boots as well as those suede shoes with the gummy rubber sole (were they also Kickers?)
NafNaf jumpers, Soviet jeans, British Knight trainers (although even he didn't stoop that low).
Gah, purple suede Timberland boots as well, with terrible flowery shirts. HA HA. It's a shame digital/phone cameras weren't around then.

Global Hypercolour was something I never understood. So, you want to show everyone exactly where you are hot & sweaty - OK, crack on then mate.....!?

Always been bemused by clothes/fashion. I got a pair of limited edition grey/black speckled Nike Air Jordan when I was about 13/14 & became a minor celebrity at school with kids coming up & talking to me who I'd never had anything to do with before. Quickly wore off though.
I even had some lads try to nick them off my feet in the middle of the playground one day (it was quite a rough school).....

IIRC all these jackets would have loosely fallen under the rubric of a 'bomber jacket' back in the 90s.

Does anyone remember Stolen from Ivor? They sold all this 'townie' streetwear back in the early to mid-90s I think? Eclipse jeans, etc.

I remember there was a lot of stuff with Technics logos on them (as in the pro division of Panasonic) but i doubt the company had anything to do with the nasty nylon bomber jackets or the £10 record bags.

I certainly remember all the Spliffy, Eclipse stuff, but only very vaguely remember some of that style with Technics written on them.

I wonder if it was less a proper brand and more that someone just had 1000 sweatshirts printed up and sold them at some raves.

Brands loosely connected with the Rave scene that I can remember were Ton sur Ton, Naf Naf, Chevignon, Watson and one called C17.

Chipie- Diesel - C-17 - Replay - Verte Valley - Ciao - And loads of others I forget !! Christ I wasted a lot of money in the 90’s !! Still have lovely thick C-17 shirt that’s in regular use as a smoking/putting bins out/diy shirt 🙂

No, the enemy was the cyber punks with their glow sticks and cargo pants with a multitude of strands hanging off them.

I had quite a bit of Soviet stuff. And a lot of Replay and Gio Goi. I was working at Joe Bloggs at the time. If you had a Joe Bloggs t shirt in the early 90’s, chances are I designed it

I was also guilty of bomber jacket offences with a Zone, Blackpool one (stay classy!) if anyone remembers that madhouse 😃

As for Technics, here’s my (more recent vintage) Technics 1210/Shimano mash up T-shirt design for Team JMC as sported by Terrahawk of this parish

I always wanted a Schott MA1 jacket... was the 'Technics' jacket an evolution of them.?

I had a Technics jacket all those years ago. Went to a few Dreamscape events but never had a jacket. A bloke walked past my house a couple of weeks ago in a Dreamscape T-shirt. Bought from ebay apparently but it looked pretty low quality.

I remember them , though they were quite cheap tat . The Schott jackets came way later probably 96 onwards. Naf Naf and Chipie were pretty cool at the time and probably just before the rave scene kicked in , couple them up with Fila trailmasters or ellesse boots and baggy Joe bloggs and you were the cock of the morth . Also remember the Gio Goi stuff from Manchester which Im sure was the donnelly bros . Great times though , you can still buy Best Company , C17 and Gio Goi which have all been rebranded. Soviet sadly was bought over buy Mike Ashley and is sold cheap in USC shops. Shame as the early sweatshirts were really good heavy quality like Carhartt.

I remember buying some ridiculously baggy jeans in about 1991 to go raving in. From 3rd Eye down the bottom of Canterbury high street. Think they were £35. What was I thinking !? Won't pay much more than that now for jeans! Refreshers long sleeve tops were quite popular then too.

Used to love Eclipse stuff. Had a few shirts and pairs of jeans as a youngster. My mum had no idea about the spliff smoking kid on the logo.

Anyone else have Pony Linebackers too?

The only alternative to the ubiquitous Adidas Samba/Gazelle or Air Jordan’s

I’m presently trying to procure a pair of Air Jordan 1’s for Binnerette number 2. You can’t get them for love nor money. As soon as Nike get stock in, they’re literally gone in seconds

I did, in some heinous turquoise/white/orange colour scheme.
Nagged my mom endlessly to get them from ‘the catalogue’ 😆

Did anyone ever have Pony Linebackers in any colour scheme except Miami Dolphins turquoise and orange? I have never seen another pair in the flesh.
Also, the girls used to wear the gigantic Barker Bros jeans and bucket hats.

And those awful White Dove; you don't need wings to fly bombers.

I too thought the technics jackets were promo gear. Those NASA jackets were awful! Didn’t Spliffy do jeans with the chap on an arse pocket?

@ derekstarship - I had some Soviet jeans and shirts, good quality, better than diesel if I remember, but not as fashionable.

Edit: didn’t people with NASA jackets usually have on a mission stickers on their Nova rear windows

Yes on the spliffy man - kayak23’s picture just loaded up. Incidentally who remembers Fuct t shirts with the Ford style logo and Standard Deluxe?

I had a standard deluxe y shirt with an inflated pufferfish that said blow man blow.

@tayls - a friend had a framed standard deluxe promo poster ‘ holidays in the sun’ with the Easter island statues. I was ‘well jell’ of that.

Don’t remember Dosse Posse though.
