I'm looking for an upgrage on my low end Vintage acoustic guitar. Someting with a fairly mellow sound, preferrably not more than £300 (tho will consider used).
Cheers..

What kind of sound are you looking for? I don't really get on with single coils, much prefer humbuckers. To me the sound is "fatter" with the humbuckers.
Much like bikes, its good fun picking up the bits you fancy on ebay etc and building your own! (Sound mad shaped bodies to be had!!).
LAG are amazing for the money, plus not that many people have them so you score niche points.
sorry, usual answer, got to a load of shops and have a play.
if you try some more pricey ones you can alwys buy used.
a well set up guitar also makes a huge difference.
simon & patrick i like for 300'ish. seagul also were nice if you can get on with the neck.
oo, forgot about them (LAG). Tried one in my mate's shop and it sounded brill.
There is Yamaha LS6 for sale on music radar for 250 on music radar forum. Not that mellow, but really nice guitars, and won't cost you much if you move it on.
+1 for trying a few out. The standard of lower end guitar's these days is very good. For £300 you should get a solid wood guitar with a nice sound. Washburn, Cort ,Tanglewood are all worth a look.

I recently spent a couple of days with my son playing everying in that price range in shops. We got close but couldn't quite find the Oasis sound my son was after so bought the above from Thomann on the basis of the recordings on that site. He's delighted. The truss rod was far to slack but once that was wound up to get the right neck shape the bridge didn't even need a file.
I prefer the slightly less mellow sound of my old Sigma Martin (which can be picked up second hand for your budget) and the two together sound ace. I'm too old to play in his band though. 🙁
