Daughter's chromebook (lowish end lenovo one) is dead, no power, won't charge (3 diff chargers) and no simple button resets are working.
Battery is not meant to be user replaceable but it's easy enough to get at - Having taken it out the chromebook still won't charge / power directly, nowt happening. Would you expect it to power on direct if it was just a battery issue? Or is this not possible and it has to have the battery in situ to power on?
Wondering if a new battery is worth a go or if it's done.
With the back off you'd want to check that it's actually receiving power from the power connector (possibly physical damage). You can probably identify the regulator without too much difficulty. Look very carefully for water damage and corrosion on the board in the region of the power plug.
Thks @Flaperon - how do you tell if it's receiving power? There's a power indicator LED right by the charge port which is not coming on, which doesn't seem very promising.
You'd need a multimeter on voltage mode and then test from the board to the connector. But I think on reflection you'd be better off trying a local PC or electronics repair place.
Can't help you with a Chromebook but a microwave works for frozen hamsters

I've had a laptop that wouldn't switch on with a failed battery. It was a refurbished one and, like you I assumed it should work plugged in so initially asked for a refund. The supplier insisted on trying a new battery first though which sorted the issue. That was a HP IIRC, but I reckon new battery would be worth a shot.
